"This is extremely well-written science fiction. The plot was good, the characters well-drawn. This is science fiction the way it should be written."

Leap Day 2012

Finding the beacon was the easy part; it had existed at least as long as humans had the means to listen. But cold, dark Pluto kept its secrets well, and whatever mystery it harbored drifted further away with each passing day. We did not have the luxury of waiting until we were ready to go. The first encounter would not be on our terms.

The world dreamed of a magnificent starship - what it got was Ambassador. Fourteen humans, fighting time, insanity, and each other in the ultimate experiment. No sooner had we learned to fly than we departed for that distant shore, nothing but cold death beneath our wings.

Pluto - what science could not tell us science fiction tried to predict. The world watched and waited as Ambassador's epic voyage drew to a close, ready for anything...or so they thought. The planet was just as cold, just as dark, the signal just as strong. Where are they? Are they friend or foe? Will we know them when we see them? What will we do next?

From the darkness Fate sweeps its powerful blow across the bow of mankind's achievement, crushing it into the dead ice of a black world. Broken, stranded, dying, Ambassador abandons its noble quest of kinship for one far more humble - survival. One last hope remains to sustain them through the impossible winter, one divine promise - Earth will come again.

Salvation

The Horizon Trilogy continues with Salvation, available now!
ISBN 1-4107-9237-4 (e-book); 1-4107-9236-6 (paperback)

Ambassador has vanished and is feared lost. The last hope rests with the crew of Ernest Shackleton as they try to pick up the trail at Pluto some 17 years later.

Unique among the crew is Elin Greaves, whose heightened mental capacity has allowed her to reach beyond the normal human mind, into the future, the past, into places far away...perhaps even beyond the icy mask that has for so long hidden Pluto's true face.

But Pluto's secrets are buried deep, far deeper than anyone had dared imagine. So incongruous are the survivors they find they seem to defy explanation. While Elin slowly begins to learn how vast the ocean truly is, the answers still elude them.

Perhaps most frustrating of all, though: Earth knows something, something it will not share with the world - and not even with Ernest Shackleton. Seven years earlier, a rendezvous with a mysterious object determined to have originated at Pluto results in an immediate and impenetrable veil of secrecy. The only message: a threat exists, but only by containing it can disaster be averted.

Earth has betrayed them. Pluto's spell over Elin Greaves continues to grow. The crew's humanity and fear begin to invade the careful directive of scientific objectivity. And soon it becomes evident that the clutch of human survivors might not be the only ones in need of salvation...

About the Author

They say that by the age of 30 a person finally has the sensibility to tell himself that he is just not going to write the "Great American Novel." True, many people dream, and some even start. But rare are those individuals with the resolve to become more than the world tells them they can.

Ray Andrews is one such individual. Publishing his first novel was only one accomplishment he recorded before turning 30. Here are a few more:

The only thing he wonders now is what's left for the next 30 years?
