Notes on Archived Moves

Below you can find links to archived moves. For clarity I've collated them, occasionally corrected spelling, etc. Any GM's notes or comments are [in brackets]. Player's notes are also [in brackets] but the player is specified, e.g. [Scott's note: blah blah.]

The archives are and will remain behind where the game actually *is.* This is because collating the moves into a readable format is time-consuming, moreso with 9 players. If anyone in the game or looking to apply wants to see current moves, email me and I'll see about getting permission (if needed) and forwarding the moves, or reposting to the echo.

Prologue

Caeric & Tonar 1: Wherever he goes, *they* follow--
Frenil & Takashi 1: A sage once said there are three kinds of people in the world...
Marika 1: It's a bad sign when your commanding officer ignores your snide remarks...
Qoren 1: "I trust the wraiths as I trust any man."
Shakra 1: ...her dreams have contained a different kind of smoke...the black, oily smoke that heralds war.
So Fooyan 1: "He who would find a friend, must first...allow himself to be found."
Yasmaili 1: "I fear you mistake my profession, sir."

Caeric & Tonar 2: "Sorcerer....What business have you with us?"
Frenil & Takashi 2: ...in their delirium...victims have spoken of shadows with their eyes.
Marika 2: "There are forces from the west who want to see Qenar vanquished."
Qoren 2: "Further north there have been reports of wraiths in human shape..."
Shakra 2: "...a peaceful traveller is welcome to warmth, and shelter."
(Since Karen was away her moves started later. Shakra reappears in Prologue 6.)
So Fooyan 2: The ghostwolf stops and regards So Fooyan without wavering...
Yasmaili 2: ...Yasmaili is nearly at the door, but...another caravan has just arrived...

Caeric & Tonar 3: "...a 'sorcerer' is one who hasn't accepted the Firebird's salvation...."
Frenil & Takashi 3: "A promise made, a woken shade. The bargain was yours, not ours."
Marika 3: ...she is treating him as a potential enemy, rather than as the leader of her own country.
Qoren 3: ...he sacrifices a commander with no seeming purpose.
(Qoren resurfaces in Prologue 5.)
So Fooyan 3: "Early to bed, early to rise, assists the man who would be wise..."
Yasmaili 3: Her first instinct is to get as far away as possible--

Caeric & Tonar 4: "His blood will flow first if this be a trap."
Frenil & Takashi 4: Distantly, he hears a woman's blurred voice: "Not quite that way--"
Marika 4: ...it's not as if they could find many more people as competent as she is...
So Fooyan 4: ...the relentless pounding of hammers on forges, shaping metal for war.
Yasmaili 4: ...hidden amid the mass of jewellery is a tiny silver pin in the shape of a barbed cross--the spellsworn's cross.

Caeric & Tonar 5: "...we are above poisoning-of-food..."
Frenil, Takashi & Qoren 5: Two dangerous men, all in all...except they are not enemies.
(Here's Qoren again.)
Marika 5: She's never known grave, grave misfortune to miss a chance to strike.
So Fooyan 5: "When proverbs fail, it is time for new proverbs."
Yasmaili 5: Yasmaili feels a tingling at the back of her mind as all coyness drops away from the woman's voice.

Caeric & Tonar 6: "...curious...what some would call business, as opposed to...dinner conversation."
Frenil, Takashi & Qoren 6: "...another expedition into the Ashen Lands is needful, to find what new threat awaits us..."
Marika 6: Of course they can offer her one of the better rooms--she's getting kicked out of it soon enough.
So Fooyan and Shakra 6: Couriers gone astray...messengers gone astray...
(Here's Shakra again.)
Yasmaili 6: Having rehearsed the countersign all the way here, she gives it quickly...

Caeric & Tonar 7: "Avrezin has become weak....I would see that weakness lanced..."
Frenil, Takashi & Qoren 7: "You succeeded in unravelling the spellbird, but what happened to the wraith?"
(They go on to Interlude I and the Story.)
Marika 7: Still, if the executioner taught him, he must have some hidden skill at something.
So Fooyan & Shakra 7: "Few there are who truly know which path they seek..."
Yasmaili 7: "I am of the desert clans," she points out, her voice deliberately neutral.

Caeric & Tonar 8: "I would know...if it is true that the Qenaren have lied to us...."
Marika's Prologue 8: Engineers...think everything out well enough in theory, but have trouble with the real world.
So Fooyan & Shakra 8: ...the patrol is twice the size that she's used to...
Yasmaili 8: But should that mean turning her back on her desert home, would she be willing?

Caeric & Tonar 9: "Wait, and do the thing you know to be right."
(Hereafter the two will travel separately...)
Marika 9: ...occasionally she had been just a little insubordinate.
So Fooyan & Shakra 9: To stalk, one must either know the prey, or have evidence of it.
Yasmaili 9: "...it shouldn't be too hard to arrange for me to go aside privately with someone, to...haggle over my fee?"

Caeric 10: "...I will see what I can learn, and what I learn you will hear."
Marika 10: "Just don't introduce yourself with your name and rank."
So Fooyan & Shakra 10: "...my teacher is what exists from one horizon to the other."
Tonar 10: ...he hears the moonlight sweetness of flutesong coming from the bard's room.
Yasmaili 10: "If I get in beyond what I can handle, I will be sure to call for help."

Marika 11: ...is it worth living with this woman's arrogance?
Marika 12: Her job is stealing and copying documents, not actually *interpreting* them.
Marika 13: Those eyes are disinclined toward mercy...and all too inclined toward death.

Interludes: I

Caeric: When the sun scorches the sands, they ride straight and tall...
Frenil, Takashi & Qoren: ...he would under NO circumstances deal in poisons....
So Fooyan & Shakra: ...So Fooyan's dreams touch upon the man with the fiery hand...
Tonar: ...people seem to take him as another foreign mercenary like all the ones who've just passed through.

The Story Begins

Caeric 1: "He's...a traveller who wishes to see the world's wonders."
Frenil, Takashi & Qoren 1: It is only after the Black Wall is out of sight that the wraith comes into sight....
So Fooyan & Shakra 1: Smoke. From her home, or a place so near home as to make no difference.
Tonar 1: Only hard years of experience keep him from visibly reacting as the soldier waylays the girl.
Yasmaili 1: A pity for Mehuna, though, that she's losing some of her potential audience to the duel.

Frenil, Takashi & Qoren 2: "...Turn back and lance the darkness from your own hearts before seeking the darkness without."
Tonar 2: Tonar allows himself an instant's smile at the backhanded compliments Deathbringer always draws...
Yasmaili 2: "Will I be redeeming my promise to dance at your wedding soon?"

Frenil, Takashi & Qoren 3: "Is she really up to this kind of work...?"
Tonar 3: "Don't you know diseased meat when you see it, man?"

Tonar 4: "Relax...I think we all pursue a common goal."

Tonar 5: "Has it occurred to you...to ask the woman herself what her wish is?"
