clues to the Boy Of Steel, leading him to Matt Ritter, a man who
is being drawn into a cult made up of American descendents of a lost African
tribe, who practice a ritual that gives them the power to fly. Each time they
practice the ritual, an imbalance in nature occurs and a fire creature is

- The Test Of Time - (12/2/90)
Writer: David Gerrold
Director: David Hartwell
Lana and Clark are out tramping through the woods while working on
a story. Suddenly Clark sees something strange with his super-vision:
what looks like a miniature tornado quickly approaches them, and picks up,
spins, and throws Clark to the ground. When he stands up, Clark
sees Lana frozen in position, and he goes for help - only to find the
rest of Smallville frozen in place. After some investigation he learns
that the town isn't frozen in place, but is just moving extremely slowly, but
then decides that the world has remained the same, he is just moving fast.
Eventually he discovers the truth: two aliens (Eric Conger and Bryce Wood) came
to Earth in search of a new planet to invade, and are subjecting Clark to
a series of tests, using their power to control time, in order to learn the
weaknesses of humans. Keeping his true identity a secret, Clark uncovers
their schemes and misleads them into thinking all humans have supernatural
strength.

- (12/9/90)
Writer: Michael Carlin and Andrew Helfer
Director: David Nutter
At the end of a typical workday at the Bureau for Extra-Normal Matters, a

As the stone begins to glow and crack, Clark rushes to change into Superboy
who then fuses the rock back together, but to no avail. The rock explodes and a
transparent oozing creature launches itself onto Superboy and wraps
itself around his neck. The Bureau must watch helplessly as even lasers
are not able to cut the creature away. Superboy floats in and out of
bizarre dreams, while the alien feeds on the adrenaline these dreams cause,
growing larger and larger. Finally, it appears that Superboy is truly
dying, and in his dreams he travels outside of himself and through a tunnel of
light. At the end of the tunnel, he meets his real parents, who are dead, and
they tell him it is not his time. Feeling more confident, Superboy goes
back into himself, now renewed with the strength to battle the alien.

attempt to kidnap the boy, but their second attempt is successful. While with
the cult, Jeremy sees a newspaper with Superboy's picture and a
headline about the comet. When Superboy rescues him, Jeremy shows

vs. Metallo - (4/8/91)
Writers: Andrew Helfer
and Michael Carlin
Director: Richard J. Lewis
While Mr. Corben is on trial for Metallo's numerous crimes, he has
a chunk of Kryptonite smuggled into the courtroom - just as Superboy

transforms himself into Metallo, takes over the room, and decides to use
the jury to prove that Superboy is the guilty one for leading him into
the life of crime. Metallo tells the jury about Superboy talking Metallo
into helping him raid a military base. When Metallo asks Superboy
if the events are true, he must answer "yes" and the jury is shocked. Lana

shows that Superboy was under the effects of Red Kryptonite. When Metallo
claims that he was not in his right mind either, Lana shows an important
difference - even under the influence of Red Kryptonite, Superboy
wouldn't kill. Reminding the jury of all that Superboy has done for them,

of the car, but it also makes him wild and mean. The next morning, his
personality is still strange - he is pleasant and jovial - and decides to go out
into the field with Matt. As they leave we learn that a man was beaten to
death very near where Jackson has his accident. While Matt and Dennis
are on a call, they meet Elissa, and later that night, Dennis goes

and Superboy are trapped together in a chamber of the mine while Lana
is trapped on the other side, near the mine entrance, by a fallen rock. As the
two men begin to run out of oxygen, Superboy convinces Luthor that
the only way he'll get out alive is to take the Kryptonite as far away as
possible. The far end of the chamber is still not far enough, but Superboy

What he doesn't realize, is he's the one who's doing them. Garrett Waters (Robert
Miano) seems like an upstanding citizen, well known for his activity in
charitable causes. He has even gotten Superboy to help him out by
collecting donations and signing a Declaration of Principles
advocating rights for the homeless. Trouble is, it's also a contract with the
devil. For Garrett Waters was once a medieval monk, cursed to live until
the end of the world. Throughout nine centuries, he has used the Satanic
contract to try to cause Armageddon and it seems this time he may be successful.

restaurant, being held by two convicts who escaped from a courtroom that
morning. Police are searching door-to-door for the pair, and it's only a matter
of time before they arrive. Unfortunately, when they do show up, Mack is

#77-78 - The
Road To Hell, part 1&2 - (5/19/91-5/26/91)
Writer: Stan Berkowitz
Director: David Nutter
A large menacing snake approaches a young child (Aaron Schnell) in a thick
forest, but the child - obviously gifted with super powers - picks up the snake
and throws it hundreds of feet. Watching the child through a dimensional portal,
two strangers say that the child must not grow up on his own in the wilds, but
it may be too late to help him. They then begin watching Superboy save a
helpless car accident victim, and as she starts to kiss the Boy Of Steel
as a reward, he disappears and finds himself transported to the building he
works at - except no one knows him now. What's more, much has changed in this
new world, such as the lady he saved was killed, Lana has now been
working in the field for two years, and no one has ever heard of Superboy!
Realizing that he is in another dimension, Clark goes to see Dr.
Winger (Kenneth Robert Shippy), who, in Superboy's world, had created
and inter-dimensional travel device. But the Winger in this dimension
didn't have Superboy's help and couldn't complete it. Later, meeting a
changed Lana who cares about nothing except a big story, she admits she
doesn't know Clark, but has heard of a young boy who lives in the wilds
with super powers. Meanwhile, while Superboy tries to figure out a way
