This Fan Fiction-by Lucky CHAPTER ONE: THUMP It was a warm Sunday evening in August. Harry had just left his room. Each evening, he was allowed out of his room for fifteen minutes. Those fifteen minutes were the only time Harry could leave his room the whole day, and he was never allowed to leave the house. The window in Harry’s room was barred so that Harry could not leave, so that Hedwig (Harry’s magic owl) could not bring or take any messages, and so that no one could get in to talk to Harry. Harry was just finishing taking a five minute shower when he heard a thump in the room to the left of the shower wall. The room to the left of the shower was his! Someone was in there! Harry quickly turned the water off, dried himself off and put on his way-too-big, used-to-be-Dudley’s hand-me-down clothes and walked down the hall to his room. The Durselys were sitting at the bottom of the stairs making sure Harry didn’t try to escape. He opened his bedroom door, entered, and shut it loudly so that Aunt Petunia would know he was back in his room. Harry turned on his light; it was off, like he had left it. He quickly scanned the room. He didn’t see anyone. Hedwig was still in her cage. The cover of his secret compartment was still on. His window was still shut and his notebook was still under his bed. His bed was still made. But there was something different on the bed. On the bed lay a maroon block. Harry picked it up. It was about the length of his hand, and as wide and tall as his wrist. He turned it over. It was smooth and heavy. There was an envelope taped to the bottom. In emerald green ink, the letter was addressed to Mr. Harry Potter. Harry carefully opened it and took out the two papers inside. The larger one read: Dear Mr. Harry Potter, We look forward to seeing you this year as a Fourth year. The materials you will need in addition to your regular supplies are: *Medieval Wizardry and Witchcraft *History of Hogwarts *Physics in the Magic World *Transfiguration level 2 Please be at platform 9 _ at 1:30 p.m. on August 31st for the Hogwarts Express. Sincerely, Professor McGonagall Harry looked at the second, smaller sheet of parchment. Printed neatly, it read: Throw the block against the wall for the needed supplies. Take this note with you. Harry heard Aunt Petunia coming back upstairs. He quickly pushed the notes and the block off the bed. Aunt Petunia locked the door and went back downstairs. Harry looked at the clock. 9:18. She was two minutes early, but he didn’t care. He lay on his bed, thinking. He knew he could probably trust the note, but what if it didn’t work? The Durselys would surely hear and for sure reduce his free time even more. And what did the note mean, for the needed supplies? He decided to have faith in the mysterious note and stood up and got ready to throw the block. CHAPTER TWO: ARCHWAY Harry stood about four feet away from the wall between the bedroom door and his empty closet. He swung his arm back, and brought it forward fast, letting the block fly toward the wall. FLASH There was a very bright flash of pink light and green fog went everywhere. Although there was quite a commotion, it all happened silently. After Harry’s temporary blindness left him, he looked at the wall where he had thrown the block. There, between the closet door and the bedroom door was a stone archway. Harry picked up the parchment with instructions on it and cautiously passed through the arch. There he was, in the courtyard right outside the Leaky Cauldron in London. He was going to Diagon Alley, the magical market. Harry tapped the correct brick over the garbage can and the wall opened up to make a passageway. He had done this many times before. He crawled through the passageway and was in Diagon Alley. All around Harry were other wizards and witches of all ages bustling around shopping. Harry recognized a couple of students from Hogwarts. Lavender Brown, Lee Jordan and Angelina Johnson were all there. He also saw some other people he recognized from school, but he did not know them or their name. Harry didn’t know how he was going to pay for the materials he needed. He didn’t have any Muggle money much less any wizard money. While he was trying to think of what to do, he decided to go into Noble and Barnes to somehow but the books he needed. He entered the store. From ceiling to floor, just about every nook and cranny was packed with books like Potions Perfect and Crystal Ball Common Sense and The Official Rules of Quidditch. The storeowner, Madam Barnes, was helping a kid who looked to be a fist year. Harry went off to find his own books he needed. First he found History of Hogwarts. It was pretty thick, 7, 914 pages. Next he found Medieval Wizardry and Witchcraft. It had a picture of an old ugly witch on the cover. After that, Harry found Transfiguration Level 2. Inside were many picture. Harry had been looking for Physics in the Magic World for a long time, but he could not find it anywhere. He decided to ask someone else if they knew where it was. There was a red-headed boy about Harry’s height who seemed to be looking for History of Hogwarts and already was holding the Physics book. "Excuse me," Harry tapped the boy on the shoulder. "Could you help me find Physics in the Magic World?" The boy turned around. "HARRY!" the boy yelled. It was Ron. The two boys were very happy to see each other. Neither of them had many friends, and theywere pretty close. They had not been able to talk to each other since the beginning of June. After talking for quite a bit, after Ron showed Harry where the book was (floating three inches from the ceiling), and after Ron found the rest of the books he needed, the two boys went to pay for their books. Madam Barnes, seeing Harry’s note decided to just charge the charges to next year’s charge. They went to Quality Quidditch Supplies. QQS was Harry’s favorite store. A new broom hadn’t been introduced yet, and Harry already had the best, the Firebolt. They browsed over the less great brooms for awhile, the left and sat outside. They talked about how Harry could get to Platform 9 and Three-Quarters and decided it would be best if Harry went to live at Ron’s house again for the last weeks of summer. The planned on how they could get Harry’s magic supplies from the closet under the stairs. They went back to the Muggle World via the archway to get Harry’s supplies. CHAPTER THREE: STAIRS Ron and Harry stepped into Harry’s room and began talking very quietly. It was 12:34 p.m. Harry had left at 9:20, so that meant that he had been in Diagon Alley for three hours and fourteen minutes. Ron searched his pockets for a bobby pin till he finally found one in his right back pocket. He picked the lock to Harry’s bedroom door and the two boys tiptoed into the hall. "I don’t think the floor creaks up here," whispered Harry," but just in case, walk right next to the wall." He walked down the hall too infrequently to remember if it creaked or not. Ron and Harry walked awkwardly down the hall, placing their feet next to the wall on the left. Harry leading, with Ron following right behind. Harry knew his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon were sleeping soundly as they passed their bedroom door. He could hear his aunt’s high, shrill snore and his uncle’s low, growling one. They heard Dudley’s high-low-high-low snoring loudly as they passed his room, too. Ron stifled a giggle. As they reached the end of the hall and top of the stairs, Ron was getting nervous. He really, really, really hoped that the cruel ole Durselys wouldn’t wake. They’d literally be dead. "Only the bottom two steps creak," said Harry in a barely audible voice. He knew about the bottom two steps because he used to sleep under the stairs, in the closet. The Durselys, afraid of getting in trouble for making him stay there, decided to let him move into the smallest bedroom. "You stay here while I go get my trunk. I’ll bring it over here, and you go take it upstairs while I get the rest of my stuff." Ron handed Harry the bobby pin and Harry slid down the banister. He hit the floor with a soft thud. Lucky for Harry, none of the downstairs floor creaked, so he quickly slid over it around the banister to the closet under the stairs. He picked the lock, with Ron watching, standing a few feet above him on the stairs. Harry was not as skilled as Ron at picking locks, but somehow, he managed to get it open in the dark. His magic books were on top of the trunk, so Harry just set them aside. He picked up his the dusty trunk. It was heavy, but he’d have to be able to do it. He slid once more again over the floor and handed the trunk to Ron over the two noisy steps. Ron almost fell forward with the weight of the trunk. "Ok," whispered Harry. "Go take this to my room. Walk very slowly and carefully in case the floor creaks." Ron nodded, wanting to make as little noise as possible and turned around and headed up the stairs. Harry went back to the closet and began piling his books up. "What do you think you’re doing?" Uncle Vernon’s voice bellowed. Harry turned around, very slowly. Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon were standing at the top of the stairs. "I don’t know what you’ve been thinking of doing," yelled Harry’s uncle, "but you’re not too smart to try to pull this crap." Uncle Vernon, face redder than ever, began clambering down the stairs, Aunt Petunia following. Suddenly both of them flew face forward down the stairs, looks of pure shock on their faces. They tumbled together in a heap down the stairs to the floor, where they landed, bodies sprawled. They would be okay, just have bad headaches and bumps on their heads when they regained conciseness. Harry looked up the stairs to see the cause of their fall. There stood Ron, with a mischievous smile on his face. "Score!" Harry shouted, and they high-fived. He scrambled to get his books. Up the stair and down the hall to his room they ran, feeling quite victorious. "Ok," said Ron. "Let’s first put your trunk through the arch, then we’ll go through with all these books." "Alright," said Harry. "Sounds great to me!" They sorted the books Harry would need out of the old books, and abandoned the rest on the bed. Luckily, Harry only needed four of the nine books he had brought up. He placed the four books inside the trunk, along with his four new ones. The two boys shoved the heavy wooden trunk through the stone archway in the wall, and Ron carried his own new books he had brought in Diagon Alley. The friends crawled through the arch. Boy, would Dudley have a surprise at the bottom of the stairs when he woke up in the morning! CHAPTER FOUR: MESS "Man this feels great," exclaimed Harry. "Freedom!" They had just walked into the courtyard outside the Leaky Caldron. The stone archway seemed to know they were running away and closed in on itself to form a solid wall again. "It must really rot living there like you’re a criminal. Next summer, you should come straight to my house. My folks won’t care," Ron said. He tapped the brick above the garbage can and the wall opened up. They set the trunk on the dusty ground in Diagon Alley. Ron stepped in first, arms laden with books. Harry hauled the heavy trunk into the Alley. They hauled all of their stuff around, looking for the rest of the Weasleys. It was near lunch break in the magic world, so there were many wizards and witches shopping. In fact, Harry had never seen so many magic folk in one place before in his whole life! Not even at Hogwarts, and Hogwarts was a pretty large school. Harry and Ron pushed and shoved their way through the immense crowd. A couple of time the lost their balance with the loads and nearly fell. It was even more difficult than normal walking, carrying such big loads. They kept their eye out for any of the Weasleys in the huge crowd. It was hard to see, though, because of all the people kicking up dust as they walked. To wait out the huge crowds, they decided to go to Cauldron Country Kitchen. Cauldron Country Kitchen was a new shop in Diagon Alley. It had not been there last year, when Harry had last visited the Alley. It was a specialty shop, a restaurant, that sold witch and wizard favorites. Among the list on their menu were Chocolate Amphibians, Crackers, Cauldron Cheeseburgers and Warlock waffles. Harry and Ron sat at a booth near the window. Harry ordered a package of Bubble Gum Batts, and Ron ordered a bag of Lizard-Licked Licorice. While they waited for their food to come, they talked about their upcoming year at Hogwarts. They would be fourth years this year, and they were excited. The younger students would be looking up to them. "I hope Hermione doesn’t take as many classes this year as she did last year," Harry told Ron. "Last year she was so stressed." Ron agreed. They both remember quite vividly how Ron and Hermione had gotten into a huge fight last year and had hardly made up. But they had. After they finished their food (with a couple of "yum!"s and "mmmmm"s involved) Harry and Ron paid their bill (on Ron) and left the Cauldron Country Kitchen. It was after lunch break now so they didn’t have as much trouble getting through the streets. They hauled their stuff into Gargoyle General Store. There they set their loads down next to the Monster Milk and went to look at the Magical Creatures section. This section held all the Magic Creatures imaginable; owls, hippogriffs, legalized dragons, enchanted dogs, cats, toads and rats, and garlientes, a cross between a giraffe and a rhino with wings. Just to name a few. As they rounded the corner into the Magical Creatures aisle, Ron heard a familiar voice: "Think what Mom would say if we brought that home," George Weasley joked to his twin, Fred. "Hi guys!" Harry greeted the twins. They grinned and ran over to their brother and Harry. "How ya guys been doing?" Harry asked them enthusiastically. "Not too bad, not too bad at all," responded Fred, slapping Harry on the back. "How have you been holding up with those rotten old muggles?" Harry told them, and Ron notified the twins that Harry would be staying with them again this summer. "That’s FANTASTICO!" yelled George. He was the more obnoxious of the very obnoxious twins. "Well we better get going, Mom said to meet her," he said, "right now," looking at his bear arm where a watch might be. What an odd child. "You betcha!" Ron answered and he and Harry went to get the trunk and Ron’s books. They rounded the corner again, walking towards the Monster Milk. Suddenly, they froze in their tracks. Harry’s trunk's contents and Ron’s books were all over the floor. Coming up next: CHAPTER FIVE
