How Hogwarts Works
Hogwarts Online is an online simmulation
game for Harry Potter fans. It is in no way
connected with the publishers or author of the
Harry Potter books and does not claim names or
words from the books.

After joining:

After submitting your application to join , you are sent a confirmation owl, saying that you have successfully joined Hogwarts Online, and it gives you specific information you will need to play the best Harry Potter RPG(role-playing game) on the net! This is where you can read all of the rules and procedures of Hogwarts Online. You begin now:

Your house:

About a day after you submit your application, you will be sent word by owl on whether or not you are permitted to use the Hogwarts name you selected. If you are not, then you need to check on the student roster on the main page, and see which names are already taken, then you can go through the joining process again and chose a different name . If the name you selected is not taken, then you will be sent a notice containing your house username and password, your gringotts vault number, and other various information. Your house password is very important, as you will use it everywhere you need a password, so I suggest you write it down or something. You can access your house common room by clicking on your house's name at the top of the website. It will take you to a page where you have to give your username and password (These are given to you in the e-mail). Note: The name you selected in the application is not for security purposes, so you won't need it to get into anywhere. It is only so teachers can identify students, this is called your 'Hogwarts Name'; you will use it when you chat, buy items, send in tests and homework, ect. In other words, you will use it everywhere except to get into your house common. In the house common you can chat with fellow house members, send questions and comments to your head of house, view the house roster, and view your house's status in both the Interhouse Championship and Quidditch Cup. The winners of both contests will be announced at the end of the school term. If your house wins, each student in that house gets a prize(it's a surprise)!

Gringotts:

Gringotts is the wizard bank located in Diagon Alley. Every student/staff member recieves a Gringotts account upon joining Hogwarts Online. You are given your vault number in the confirmation e-mail. You need your Gringotts vault number at the checkout counter of every store in Diagon Alley, or else the purchase is void. Each student is given 250 galleons when they join Hogwarts, but much of that is to be used on purchasing your supplies from Diagon Alley. Left over money can be used to buy such things as quidditch brooms, pets, and various other items. You can view your balance, and the items that you have bought at Gringotts Wizarding Bank. You can make money, but that is explained in the jobs section of this website. It may take a day or two after you have recieved your confirmation, for your vault to appear at Gringotts, so please do not bombard the Gringotts goblins or the headmaster of Hogwarts with annoying owls. You have to have your house password to enter Gringotts, so please do not waste the time in trying to enter it now. If there is ever an item that you did not buy that shows up at your vault under the items that you've bought, contact the goblins immediatly, and you will be given your money back, and you will not be credited with that item. If you did buy an item, but it does not show up on your account, and it has been at least a week, please contact a gringotss goblin or the headmaster; or if nothing else, buy it again. Someone has obviously failed to post the order, and you will most likely not be credited with two of the same item.

Earning Money:

There are many ways to save up for that new Firebolt you have been craving! And many of them require no experience or true commitment. A list below contains the following job opportunities and their pay and commitment level:

Job: Payment: Commitments/Requirements:
Daily Prophet Writer 15 g per story None at all. You just write a story and include your name, house, and vault number at the bottom, and submit it to jobs@theowl-post.zzn.com . If it is used in an issue, than your vault will be credited with 15 galleons.
Janitor 5 g per report None at all. Just look around the castle for mis-spelled words, broken links, non updated material or pictures that don't show up, and report them to jobs@theowl-post.zzn.com along with your Hogwarts name, house, and vault number. Make sure to give the exact web address of where the mistake is located. If someone reports it first though, you are not credited.
Professor 200 g per month You must by very very commited and reliable to take this responsibility. You can either be a professor of one of the main courses that are already available, and use one of my ready made sites, or you can build your own site. Again, you must be very serious about this and confident that you will update every week. You must be interviewed and approved by the headmaster to become a teacher. Just send an owl to the jobs e-mail, with your name, and e-mail, and which class you are interested in. Note: You cannot be a teacher and a student.
Author of a book for the Library between 5 and 200 g per book Just because you write a book does not mean that it will be accepted. There are many topics for books that are begging to be written. A book about a muggle sport, or types of broomsticks and their histories, or even a book that has information on how to plant a mandrake are all very tasteful topics. Only suitable books will be put on the shelves of the Hogwarts library. The students here need books they can rely on to do their homework. You can earn between 10 and 200 galleons for writting a book; all depending on how well written it is. Just write a book, and send it in an e-mail along with your Hogwarts name, the name you want it to say under author, your house, house password, and your Gringotts vault number to jobs@theowl-post.zzn.com, and if your book is accepted, you will be sent an e-mail.
Quidditch Ref 30 g, 10 s per game You must have complete knowledge of
the Hogwarts Online version of quidditch.
If you want to be a referee, than e-mail
jobs@theowl-post.zzn.com with your
Hogwarts name, your house, house password, your e-mail
and your vault number. The headmaster
will set up a meeting with you and you
will be quized and interviewed.
Prefect 10 g per month You can be made a prefect by doing
exeptionaly good in your classes; turning
in all of your work, making very good
grades, and going above and beyond
your teachers expectations. Teachers
report to the headmaster their best
students, and the headmaster will
moniter them very closely, picking only
a few from each house. Prefects are
given the responsibility of monitering the
chat rooms and message boards, and
reporting any misconduction of any of
the students.
Diagon Alley Shop Owner 25g per month This job is pretty easy too. You don't even have to maintain the shop. With this all you have to do is offer your e-mail address!
You see, when students order things at the shop you take over,
an e-mail is sent to you with the buyer's name, e-mail address,
Gringotts vault number, house, house password, and the items
they bought and how much they cost. Your job is to first, check
on the student roster to make sure that they are really from the
house they said they were from, then, you need to check at
Gringotts to see if the vault number they entered is really their
vault number. If any of these things are wrong or they left any
thing out, it is your job to e-mail them and and say that their
transaction is void. If everything is right, you proceed to the next
step. The next step is to add up the costs of the items
they bought into one large amount. You must then send an
e-mail to gringotts@theowl-post.zzn.com , with the student's
name, vault number, house, house password, the items they bought,
and the total amount of money that is to be taken from their vault.
Shop owners have to be people that check their e-mail every day,
and if there will be days that they will not be able to check it, will
have the responsibility to e-mail their boss to tell them, and that
will be mature enough to not go around telling the house passwords
(the prefects would most likely catch you anyways) ect. If you are interested in this job than send an owl to jobs@theowl-post.zzn.com.
Head Boy or Girl 27g per month To be named head boy or girl is one of the greatest honors here at Hogwarts Online. They are linked directly to the headmaster, and do some of the most important jobs for him. The head boy and girl advise the headmaster on certain subjects such as the look and feel of Hogwarts, teachers or staff members that arent doing their job, they might find cool Harry Potter pictures that the Headmaster can post on Hogwarts Online; and various other things. Head Boy and Girl are picked specifically by the headmaster, so you cannot apply to be head boy or girl, just give everything your all and you will qualify to be chosen.

Diagon Alley:

Diagon Alley is the place where all products and supplies are bought. You must know you Hogwarts name, gringotts vault number, your e-mail address, and your house password to purchase items in all of the shops. All of the required supplies can be purchased here, and must be purchased to participate at Hogwarts Online. Once you have purchased all of the items, you are allowed to participate in class. When you want to purchase items in Diagon Alley, it would be wise if you checked your Gringotts vault account to make sure you had enough money for the items you wish to buy. When you buy things, it will usually take at least a day or two for the changes to be posted at your vault, so rest assured, because Gringotts and Diagon Alley are both very busy places.

Quidditch:

Quidditch. The real sport. You can learn how to play the Hogwarts Online version of quidditch at the quidditch stadium, which is in the Grounds. You can apply to either be a ref, or a player for quidditch at the quidditch stadium also.

The captain of a quidditch team is the person that leads the their team. They organize all of the practices with the other captains and the headmaster, they coach their team during practices, and they also report to the headmaster on the scores of games, the players, and the refs. The captain can tell the headmaster if a player has not been showing up for any practices or games, and the headmaster can remove that player from the team. The captain can also tell the headmaster if a referee did not play fairly or did not even know what he was doing. The captain of each house is chosen by the headmaster(that is, if they want to be a captain). The captain can also be removed from the team by the headmaster if they are not doing their job correctly. The captain is the only person during a game that is aloud to speak to the referee or ask the referee questions out of turn.

The captain coordinates practices and games by setting a date and time, then e-mailing all of their players, asking them if they can make it. I too many people can't, they change the date or time, then ask their players again. Once the captain has a set date and time, they send an owl to the headmaster telling him when it will be. The headmaster may even come out to watch some practices, and answer questions that players may have about how to play quidditch.

Students at Hogwarts Online apply to play a position for their house's team, and the first 7 players to apply are chosen. Once the semester starts however, players can be removed if they are failing in more than two classes, and they will be replaced by students who get good grades and want to play quidditch. Players can also be replaced if they do not show up for team practices, or miss games without telling their captain, or just downright stink at playing it.

Students can also apply to be a quidditch ref. If there is a space open, then the headmaster will set up a time to interview you at the quidditch pitch, and to quiz you. Referee's must know alot about Harry Potter and the game of Quidditch, and also know the Hogwarts Online version of quidditch like the back of their hand. Quidditch refs have to know everything, because they are the ones that ask the questions and make calls. If a quidditch ref misses two games that they said they could ref, than they will be fired. If a ref does not know the game well enough, and messes up alot at games, then they will be fired.

Make sure you read the quidditch rules at the quidditch stadium.
