my comments
I thought that this book was very sad because of the way Shukov was treated. But the book just didn't keep me interested. The book was very cold hearted for the way he had to live, eat, and work. If I had to rate this book I would give it a 6 out of 10.

the theme
The theme of One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich is the outrage of unrightful suffering, the struggle for human dignity, and also the importance of faith. These were all things that Shukov had to struggle to keep.

about the book
One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich is about a Russian soldier that goes to a Siberian labor camp. In the camp he is treated very wrongly and is almost being starved. He has left his family at home and misses them very much. One of the hardest jobs Shukov has to do is lay bricks. It is hard for him physically and mentally. Life for him was nothing I could ever imagine. This book is based also on some of the things that the author had went through himself.
