Wednesday 13 @ The Zodiac November 7th 2005
Although Wednesday 13 aren't a band I'm awfully fond of, by some freak of fate I ended up with two tickets. So, being the gung-ho person I am, I grabbed a friend, painted my face and trotted on down.
The support band, who I think were called Sweet Suzi but I'm not entirely sure, were alright. The guitarist had nice calves, at any rate, which were visible through his heavily deconstructed jeans. And the female vocalist was quite well dressed too. Ahem. Alrightish punk influenced metal, not really my thing, but a lot better than some support bands I've been to see.
Wednesday 13 themselves were more amusing that anything else. I missed a large chunk of the beggining of their set on account of 'somehow' ending up at the front and then getting elbowed in the back. My back, aside from being wired up to my ribcage (Which coincidentally controls my lungs, in themselves far from 100% functional which is ENTIRELY MY OWN FAULT, I know), is extremely sensitive and tempermental. I shan't go into details, but let us assume that I wasn't in much of a state to remember what was happening for about fifteen minutes, being more concerned with breathing and other vital functions.
What I do remember, though, largely revolves around a tribute to the Ramones, some very unpleasant but amusing things about my mother and 'Rambo'. Also I loved the bassist's jacket. Military style piping gets me every time. The encore consisted of two songs that, as far as I could tell, were about how Wednesday 13 just wanted to do bad things to people, and about how much he liked saying the word 'fuck'. Oh, and pretty much inbetween every song they had recorded snippets of weird noises and horror movie soundbites (Or at least, thats what it sounded like).
When I was hanging around afterwards, waiting for my friend to come back from whereever it was he'd gone, the bassist came out to put some things in the tour bus and told everyone that the rest of them would be out in, like, five minutes and then he'd sign anything we liked. I didn't hang around to check him up on that, but I thought it kind that they didn't make their fans wait out in the cold for hours.
Rating: Not bad. Dunno if I'd go again, but then again, I don't actually really like the band.
