Scary Movie Recommendations

Let's face it, alot of our first interest in the paranormal started from watching scary movies as children. Some scary movies are total fantasy and gore with no basis in reality but some stories are strangely enough are based on real stories with experts in the paranormal giving the movie directors the correct terms and believable storylines.

Here are a few of our favorites.

The Blair Witch Project:Although highly publicized and criticized, This is a very original creepy movie about 3 college students doing a documentary about a witch

Deadly Friend:Starring Kristy Swanson...A brilliant medical student tries to cheat death and bring his girlfriend back to life

Dragonfly:Starring Kevin Costner...After losing his wife in a bus accident, Dr. Joe Darrow(Costner) starts receiving hints and visions that she may be still alive. He flies to the sight of the accident and finds a miracle

The Entity:Starring Barbara Hershey...This movie is based on the most important and celebrated paranormal case in history. World famous paranormal investigator Kerry Gaynor investigated a woman who said she was being attacked by a ghost and his team captured some of the best evidence of paranormal activity to this day

The Exorcist:Starring Linda Blair...One of the creepiest movies of all time. Based on a true story, a young girl is posessed by a demon

The Fog:Starring Jamie Lee Curtis-Janet Leigh-Hal Holbrook...A classic ghost story where a pirate's 100 year old curse terrorizes a sleepy California town

This film was better than I thought it would be. It adds some light to the back stories to both Freddy & Jason. After the people on Elm Street figured out a way to stop Freddy(By forgetting about him) Freddy invades Jason's dreams and speaks as Mrs. Vorhees and convinces him to go to Elm Street and kill to help the people on Elm Street to remember Freddy. The plan works but after starting Jason on his rampage, Jason starts killing Freddy's would be victims causing a battle to the (un)death

Fright Night:Starring Chris Sarandan-Roddy MacDowell-Amanda Bearse...A teenager discovers his new neighbor is a vampire and no one believes him

Ghost:Starring Patrick Swayze-Demi Moore-Whoopi Goldberg...Although this movie leans more towards a non-chalante attitude towards the paranormal and focuses on romance, the way the spiritual or ghost realm is portrayed is done in a very accurate manner according to the beliefs of some of the most honored and respected paranormal investigators in the field

Halloween:Starring Jamie Lee Curtis-Donald Pleasance...A classic even after almost 30 years

Halloween II:Starring Jamie Lee Curtis-Donald Pleasance...Not as good as the original but pretty close

Haunted:Starring Aidan Quinn-Kate Beckensale...A classic ghost story where a businessman starts noticing strange happenings on vacation

Jeepers Creepers...A fun creepy movie

Jeepers Creepers II...Maybe a little better than the original

Mimic:Starring Mira Sorvino-Jeremy Northam...A plague threatens to take an entire generation of children, a scientist finds the cure but the cure takes on a life of it's own

Mimic 2:Not as good as the original but is a good movie

The Mothman Prophecies:Starring Richard Gere-Laura Linney...This is a very good movie based on a true story. A journalist is drawn to a small town in West Virginia where an entity predicts disasters

A Nightmare On Elm Street-Starring Robert Englund-Heather Langenkamp-Johnny Depp...Although the rest in the Nightmare series are pretty bad. The original Nightmare is a genuinely good scary movie

The Others-Starring Nicole Kidman...A creative ghost story that will have you guessing until the final sceen

The Ring...A good creepy movie about a video tape where 7 days after you watch it, you die

Rose Red...Stephen King classic where a group of spiritual people go to a haunted house to see if they can help to bring out paranormal activity

Salem's Lot:Starring David Soul-Fred Ward-Bonnie Bedalia...Stephen King classic vampire tale that was a television mini-series but has been since been compiled into a video store movie. After I watched this one as a kid, everyone under 16 walked around with make-shift crosses made out of masking tape and pencils.

Signs:Starring Mel Gibson-Joaquin Phoenix...An excellent movie about mysterious crop circles that form in a farmers corn field

Silver Bullet:Starring Corey Haim-Gary Busey...A Stephen King classic. A very good werewolf movie although the special effects could be better. Has the feel of old campfire ghost story

The Sixth Sense:Starring Haley Joel Osment-Bruce Willis...You'll see dead people in this M. Night Shymalan classic

Stir Of Echoes:Starring Kevin Bacon...This one is a 6th Sense wanna-be but that said it is a good film

Storm Of The Century:Starring Tim Daly-Colm Fiore-...An evil being desends on a island town in Maine during a blizzard

An Unknown Encounter...This is one of the most impressive documentaries of poltergeist phenomena ever captured on film. Dr. Barry Taff(One of the most respected paranormal investigators in the world) investigates a woman's residence in San Pedro, CA and his team captures incredible footage of various events including a camera man getting attacked by an entity that hung him by a wire in the attic. If this was not faked(Most investigators believe it was not) it is one the most important pieces of evidence in the history of parapsychology. White Noise:Starring Michael Keaton...A successful architect starts receiving messages from his dead wife through household recording devices through EVP's(Electronic Voice Phenomena)

The Zero Boys:...This is one if you come across it at the video store you would probably pass it by due to the cover but this is a very good B scary movie with multiple thrills
