House of Wax (2005)
House of Wax (2005)
"They're all wax, everyone!" -Carly
I liked this movie, and I think it deserves a spot in the film library. Okay, okay, I've never seen the original House of Wax, but I've heard and I'm sure that this new version is better.
This film follows six college aged students on a road trip in Lousiana. The kids camp out for the night and a mysterious truck appears at their campsite. Nick, Carly's brother (the "bad twin") throws a bottle at the truck, blowing out it's headlight, so the guy decides to leave. The next morning, they find that one of their two cars is broken. The two girls, Carly and Paige, investigate a nasty smell in the woods and Carly falls into a pile of dead animal carcasses. Then, Paige, her boyfriend, and Johnson decide to try and make it to the football game they've been waiting to see, but end up getting stuck in traffic and going back to meet their friends.
Carly and her boyfriend get a ride to a town called Ambrose by some crazy redneck guy who was dumping carcasses into the pile. The two discover the house of wax (after walking into a funeral at a church) and mess around for awhile, and then Carly sees someone in the window behind her, and gets an eerie feeling from the wax figures. Something is mysterious about Ambrose... the town is filled with wax figures that seem too real ... and the whole town feels like one big wax museum.
This was an awesome movie. The killings were brutal and seeing Paris Hilton get a pole shoved through her head makes any movie great. The effects were excellent, especially the ones at the end with the wax melting and everything (I won't spoil it for you, I don't want to get into too much detail on this movie). Overall, this is a really good remake.
