The Horror Fix-Mudvayne

Mudvayne: L.D.50-8/10 Goddamn! These boys come out swingin'! The first track is a bunch of strange sounds and then the second track Dig just explodes with one of the heaviest riffs ever and just rolls you over. This is a kick ass and take names album. Mudvayne is a high energy, intelligent, calculated band that sets the bar a little higher for the rest of their metal peers. Each song is sort of a heavy metal symphony, full of many different parts, time changes, extensive lyrics, and I dare call these men composers as opposed to writers. The band has the best bassist in heavy metal today, Ry-Know. I dare say that he could give Flea a run for his money. This guy is all over the place with his instrument. He is also an amazing slap bass player. He shows what is possible to do with an instrument that usually gets lost in the mix. The bass work on this album is more ambitious than the guitar work. The guitar work is great in its own too. It is very riff orientated and if you are looking for solos you have come to the wrong place. The guitar solo is starting to become sort of passe with the metal genre. Once a platform for guitar gods, the genre has evolved into a medium for the bass and drums to take center stage as well. Many poeople may slam the band for wearing makeup, calling it a gimmick, but this band has the talent to back up whatever visuals they use. Make no mistake, the music can stand on its own. Mudvayne comes off at first as just an all out assualt on your ears but once you sit back and deconstruct the music you realize that there is a lot of talent here. Definitely one of the most talented hard rock bands out there right now. (photo: www.internalprimates.com)
