Ant's aren't exactly that big of a deal to most of us. Sure some like the army and fire ants carry a nasty bite, but it can easily be treated and they can easily be stepped on or squashed should they get too close. Others are harmless for the most part unless they bite you thousands upon thousands of times. But the trap jaw ant...well he's another story. As you can see, this species of ant carries two nasty hooks on the side of it's mouth, which can lock into a person at over 300 times the ants own body weight. That basically means if it bites you it'll hurt like a sonofabitch! Especially if it nails you in the eye, lip, or ear.

Now I'm sure you're thinking I can just outrun these fuckers and they'll never get me. But no so fast there "Sonic"...the trapjaw ant can movie at speeds up to and sometimes exceeding 110 MPH. Meaning that if you're just chillaxing on a log one day, and not paying attention...and these little guys surround and start attacking you and the shock of the first bite causes you to fall over and bang your head against a rock knocking you silly, you're in deep trouble. Another thing to beware of about this particular species of ant is their circus-like acrobatic abilities. Yes I said ACROBATIC ABILITIES. No they can't do anything like human circus performers can do, but they have their own methods of *acrobatics* which can still be lethal.

Should the trapjaw ant bite something too hard for it to break, it will propel itself through the air using the momentum from the bite to thrust itself upwards. Basically like a modified version of a human backflip, just using it's teeth as a propelling mechanism instead of arms like we use. This certainly makes the trap jaw ant a very formidable opponent for humans as well as animals. Especially if you're dealing with more than one at a time.

But the real question we should be asking ourselves is, not how can we exterminate these odd little creatures before they overthrow humanity (which is what some of the conspiracy loons out there would say), but who's going to be the first person to make a SCI-FI/horror flick about them? Come on, it's genius! You have ants that at their normal size can kill a lone human or small animal. Imagine them increased to the size of a St. Bernard and left to run amok in some major city with someone like "Ahnold", Will Smith, or Samuel L. Jackson standing between them and the total destruction of humanity. It would be box office gold!

But alas it probably will never happen. Instead, we'll probably get some horrible SCI-FI Channel movie of the week entitled "TrapJaw Terror", about CGI-licious trapjaw ants chowing down on a group of teenagers who visited the mountains to screw and smoke dope. *Sigh*...but one can always dream can't he? As for us humans, well we should thank our lucky stars that these ants are native to Central and South America primarily, and no trapjaw ant sightings have shown up or been reported here in america up to now in 2006. So it looks like we're safe...for the time being anyways *looks around fearfully*.
