As if people who are being cremated don't have enough worries like "have I been nice enough to be sent to the good afterlife?" and "I wonder what the food tastes like in the afterlife?"...now it seems they're worrying about leaving behind a messy planet as well. Or atleast a messy Hong Kong. Hong Kong's well-paid health officials are currently considering introducing "Eco-Coffins"...coffins made of currogated cardboard which burn faster than normal wood coffins and are much more environmentally friendly as well.

Apparently the move is being strongly considered because of the growing number of dead customers taking the "big burn" in Hong Kong's crematoriums these days. The abundance of cremated corpses is affecting the environment in Hong Kong is negative ways. This begs three questions though. One, why are so many people in Hong Kong opting to be cremated? Why are those who choose to be so dropping dead so quickly??? And number three...does opting for an eco-coffin for your loved one send the wrong message?? Maybe a majority of the people being cremated are really bad people, like "Darth Vader" evil. So they think cremation is just a "warm up" (no pun intended) for what lies ahead for them in the afterlife...if you know what I mean.

Question two pretty much answers itself. If Hong Kong's environment is suffering from normal coffin burning, then the air quality is too and well we all know what that leads to. Any one of the numerous air-pollution born diseases. But question three...what kind of message does an eco-coffin send?? Sure, it saves the crematorium's time because it burns faster, and sure it helps the environment overall...but could this be misinterpreted as an insult?? Like saying "the sooner he or she are a big smoldering pile of ashes the better."

Or I hate this relative of mine so much that regular methods of cremation just aren't fast enough for me. While this won't be the case with a majority of people, there are alot of people who do hate particular relatives yet somehow end up being stuck with the responsibility of dealing with their remains since they were such a horrible person...that they have no friends and all of their other relatives are either dead or simply don't want to be bothered. At any rate, Eco-coffins are certainly a good investment for that person or those persons who put the environment before style. And for those who just choose them to get rid of their hated Aunt Rosie or Uncle Bill ASAP...well you'll still have to deal with being haunted by their angry spirits for the rest of your lives.
