Plot:A remake of the japanese film "Kairo", After one of their friends commits suicide, strange things begin happening to a group of young people. One of them sees visions of his dead friend in the shadows on the wall, while another's computer keeps showing strange, ghostly images. Is their friend trying to contact them from beyond the grave, or is there something much more sinister going on?

Cast: Kristen Bell, Steve Talley, Christina Millian, Ian Somerhalder, Corryn Cummins, Joseph Gatt, Rick Gonzalez, Samm Levine, Riki Lindhome, Amanda Tepe, Jonathan Tucker.

My Thoughts:A good movie despite it's many problems.

Review:"Pulse" breaks one of my many movie rules, which is a movie can't be good if it has too many issues. Well "Pulse" has alot of issues, but it's still a good horror film. In "Pulse", a hidden frequency found during a telecom project opens a doorway, to where the dead can enter our world through technology and basically strip us of our will to live. Leaving everyone they touch a souless being which just wanders around and waits to waste away into ashes. Pretty creepy and messed up scenario, but of course as is with most horror films these days, there are problems. First off, "Pulse" slacks off in the first half, giving us weird images and other freakiness, without much of anything to sum up what exactly the hell is going on. People see weird images in their computers, and then cut away to the next scene. There was way too much of that happening in this film. Also I wonder how a movie like this could edit anything and not get a PG-13 rating. It's not bloody, the kids aren't dropping the "F" or "S" bomb every 4 to 5 minutes, and theres no major T&A action. But according to what I read in a few interviews, some scenes had to be cut in order to get a PG-13 rating. It seems to me the MPAA just wanted to screw this film over for some reason. Because if your main gripes are sex and violence, and there's no sex or blood or gore, then why threaten to slap it with "R" rating?? In "The Ring", a girl is cracked over the head with a rock and tossed down a well, yet it slips through as PG-13 with that scene in tact?? MPAA at it's worst. Anyhow, the problems in "Pulse" begin when these beings start getting through computer frequencies and into peoples homes. A girl named Mattie (Kristen Bell) has lost contact with her boyfriend for awhile, and senses that somethings wrong. At the beginning of the film, we see her boyfriend Josh stalked and then soul-sucked by one of the mysterious pale entities. So when Mattie visits Josh, he isn't the same Josh she knew, and even furthers that notion when he leaves her in a room by herself so he can go commit suicide in the next room. Now Mattie and her friends are left to solve his suicide, while trying to deal with it emotionally. One of the things to like about "Pulse" is that these kids don't go looking for trouble, trouble finds them. It's not one of those movies where the kids go into dark rooms, unlit basements, etc. as the killer lies in wait. The demons manage to peek their curiosity by sending them a mesage which reads *do you want to see a ghost?*. Upon clicking the link, the ghosts are now able to enter the human world and steal the soul of the person who accessed the site. "Pulse" boasts a scary premise and a very tense situation which as it continues to escalate, and claim more victims, the film kicks more and more into high gear. As I said before, it's hard to really figure out what happened to atleast two characters since their fates were left hanging in the balance by cut away scenes. Another thing to dig about this movie is the villains are pretty much unstoppable. You can't harm them in any way and they move quickly through electric pulse's so it's hard to escape them. The only thing a person can do is keep them out, and red duct tape is the only thing that can keep them confined within cyberspace. While this film presents alot of interesting, and frightening scenarios, it only half utilizes what it has. There were alot of avenues left unexplored and alot of things left untouched that had they been explored could've made the story much stronger. Still "Pulse" does two things right which carry it most of the way. It knows how to leave a lasting impression with it's death scenes, which are weird, sad, and very eerie. One scene in particular which will never leave my mind is when one of Mattie's friends just explodes into ashes right in front of her, after she gives Mattie the best explanation she can as to what exactly is happening. The second thing it does really well is taking Y2K and using it as a catalyst for a strong ending. Yes "Pulse" has it's own version of the dreaded Y2K apocalypse which many people feared when the year 2000 was ushered in. Only this one is much more terrifying because the ghosts constantly chase and attack the last remaining survivors as they try to figure out a way to shut down the internet and ultimately escape the city. "Pulse" is one of those movies that you probably won't be totally in love with, but you won't regret seeing it either. It's weird, unique, and twisted enough to be one of those films you watch every now and then just for headtrip purposes.

Pros:Decent story, pretty good acting, creepy ass villains, great final 25 minutes. The death scenes were also very well done because they were outside the norm. Good visual FX as well.

Cons: A story that only gets about 50 percent explored. Alot of things are left unanswered. Too many cut away scenes as well.

Overall:Good horror film despite it's underused premise.
