Horror movies &stuff Interviews actor John P. Jordan
Actor John P. Jordan is early into his career, an already has amassed quite an impressive resume. With appearances on tv shows such as "Days of Our Lives", and the smash hit "Prison Break", John is certainly making a name for himself pretty quickly and gaining alot of exposure along the way. Along with tv, John's also done work in the realm of horror, taking on roles in FullMoon's "Dr. Moreau's House of Pain", the 2003 slasher pic "One of Them", "The Wailer" which hit dvd earlier this year..and just recently "Evil Bong". In this interview among other things...John tells us about his "interesting" preparation for his role in the upcoming horror/comedy "Evil Bong".
MR. H:Tell us a little bit about yourself i.e. where were you born and raised, and where are you residing now?
John:From Bay City, Michigan (about 90 miles north of Detroit...the best sports town in America!) I live in Studio City now...Valley rat!
MR. H:Was being an actor your first initial career choice or was it more of a dream you wanted to pursue just so you can say later on in life, that you did it??
John:I wanted to be a professional football player (seriously) but when your 5'10, 170 and run the forty in 4.8 seconds...it ain't happenen! My junior year in high school I played Brick in Cat On a Hot Tin Roof and my acting teacher, Jeanie Gilbert (who I adore and owe so much too) really encouraged me to pursue acting. I've always loved storytelling and hell, if I can score a gig where they PAY you to tell stories--I'm in!
MR. H:You've got 4 horror films on your resume so far, "One of Them" being the first one you did back in 2003, which I thought was a pretty good film actually. What was the experience like shooting that movie?
John:That was my first film in Hollywood. I had a great time...my parents flew out from Michigan to join me on set. They were happy as pigs in shit...maybe it was validation for them, like "hey my crazy son is actually onto something." I remember in between shots, throwing some stones down a mountain with director, Ralph Portillo. Something about that moment (the kid in both of us maybe) was just great. I'll always remember that with fondness.
MR. H:Your death scene in that film was a pretty nasty one, did you see the movie after it was done, and what did you think of your demise in the film?
John:Disturbing, Gross, Repulsive...I loved it!
MR. H:So now you've just finished up "Evil Bong", and in that film you play Larnell. Tell us a little bit about your character and how he fits into the grand scheme of things?
John:Larnell is misunderstood, a lost soul searching for the meaning....HE'S AN ANGRY STONER DUDE WHO LOVES TO SMOKE POT AND LOOK AT BOOBIE MAGAZINES! He spots this giant bong in the magazine, "High Times" (fascinating read) and absolutely has to have it...it's like having the ability to score Mickey Mantle's roookie card. The bong arrives, me and my stoner buddies begin to smoke from it and....WEEEEE! OFF TO BONG WORLD!!!
MR. H:Evil Bong" has alot of veteran actors in it such as Tim Thomerson, Tommy Chong, and Bill Moseley. Which one were you most excited about meeting and working with?
John:I grew up on Chech and Chong movies and I used to smoke a lot of fucking pot so Tommy Chong was an easy guy to get excited about. Tim Thomerson is a baller! That is one bad dude! He'll punch you in the mouth and ask you to smile. He's just old school bad ass...I love that!
MR. H:Have you seen the film yet (Evil Bong)? If so what did you think of it as a viewer?
John:I laughed.
MR. H:How did you approach your role in this movie? A movie like "Evil Bong" is a much different animal compared to alot of other movies out there.
John:I didn't shave, ate a lot of Doritos and rolled around in a bathrobe.
MR. H:If a sequel to "Evil Bong" were to come along, and let's say for example, that you were given the chance to tagline it...what would you put after "Evil Bong 2" just to spicen the title up a bit?
John:The weed is stronger and the tits are bigger!
MR. H:"Evil Bong" has a nice blended cast of young and older actors. Which age group do you find you get along better with as far as being on a film set is concerned? Older actors or younger ones?
John:I love older people...I'm always "taking notes" in life and they have such rich experieces to share.
That said, the guys I worked with on Evil Bong are awesome. We've become really good friends...like they'll be at my wedding and shit...we just mesh really well. I can't tell you how much fun it was to shoot this movie...weed, craft service, hot strippers -- an alpha males dream!
MR. H:You've also completed another horror film entitled "The Wailer", tells us about that movie, your character in it, and when can we expect to see it released?
John:It's in Blockbuster and Hollywood video now. It's about the legend of La llorona (think of the boogey man in Mexico).
MR. H:As an actor you play a variety of different roles, do you feel it's important to take something, even if it's a small thing from the roles you play and from each new experience you go into as an actor?
John:Everything you do as actor (and as a person) is aways with you, even if on a subconcious level. You're always learning and growing...the best actors are always the most interesting people (Brando, Nicholson, Penn). So, yeah you take a sliver from everything you do and when it's appropriate for a role, it will find it's way in.
MR. H:You've worked with Charles Band before in "Dr. Moreau's House of Pain". What has your experience been like working with Charles and how do you think your character of Eric Carson in that film differs from your "Evil Bong" character Larnell?
John:Charlie, Charlie. He's great! He's a big kid who loves to play in the sand box. He's a cool guy you'd want to drink a beer with and tell dirty jokes to. He's very laid back on set, (the worst is having a stressed out director who constanly freaks out. That energy trickles down and effects everyone... it really does start at the top). That said...Charlie's sets are always FUN! At the end of the day that's what it's all about, right? The first film I did with Charlie I was a boxer (very apple pie kid with good intentions) who's brother was killed by...Dr. Moreau!
MR. H:What's next for John P. Jordan as far as new film projects go???
John:I've completed a screenplay (I'm actually having a table read this Saturday). It's a sports movie I hope to get made with in the year.
End.
