[Evil Breed:The Legend Of Samhain]
Plot:Two American tourists on a romantic camping trip are brutally murdered. A few days later, during the ancient festival of Samhain -- a group of American university students moves into a beautiful cottage, surrounded by a lush forest and a majestic lake They are here to learn about the rituals of the ancient Druids and other Celtic legends. But in the remains of an abandoned copper mine, lives the ancestors of an incestuous clan of cannibals. Stalked by a hulking, disfigured mutant, the students and their chaperone are in for the most harrowing time of their young lives. And keeping their heads on their necks will become their main concern.

My Thoughts:Even Jenna Jameson couldn't save this one.
Review:"Evil Breed" is another one of "those" slasher movies. You know the ones, cliche, they make no sense, stupid stuff happens for the sake of happening, and the story itself resembles a slasher villain victim as it's a discombobulated mess. The film starts off with two young lovers (one of which played by Richard Greico), commiting a number of cardnal sins in a slasher movie. Camping out in the woods, alone, at night, and having relations. It isn't long before some deadly and mysterious assailant strolls along and bumps the two of them off in bloody and gruesome fashion. Fast forward a little while later, a group of teens, your typical, cliche horror movie teens that is....show up along with a chaperone. Apparently the group has come to Ireland to do the screw and smoke dope thing that these cardboard cutout characters love to do so much. So of course you know already what's gonna happen. Which is exactly this films problem. The director/co-writer Christian Viel must've watched every crappy slasher movie in the book, and then decided to throw elements of them all into his movie. Nothing comes as a surprise in this film, there's the quiet/weird girl who is obviously there to be the *token common sense teenager/possible killer*, the other teens who are all about sex and trading sex related insults with each other, and the resident weird caretaker guy who's got that weird look in his eye, and actually at one point admits to the female chaperone of the trip that he was skulking about her room watching her sleep the previous night. Gotta love predictability eh?? So who are the villains of this film?? Well that's one thing that this film does well...sort of. The writer does an excellent job of not introducing the villains too early, but then again the dialogue before the slaughtering starts is either an obvious misdirection ploy, or just sloppy writing. Throughout most of the film we get this neverending chatter about celtic legends, the night of Samhain and the traditions that surround it such as sacrifices and related info. But once the villains who are cannibals, very hideous looking cannibals...decide to set upon their victims, we find out that they have nothing to do with celtic legends or the supernatural at all. I won't give too much away, but let's just say "Wrong Turn" must've been one of the films Viel watched for inspiration to write his movie. Another problem is the editing in this film is so bad it's hard to tell if there is one villain, or multiple ones. Although they certainly do get the gross out quality of the villains right, these are some nasty looking dudes for sure. But Viel manages to screw up the one thing any bad slasher movie normally has working in it's favor. The deaths. They are set up poorly, executed poorly, and happen at lightning quick speed! I'm not kidding. The cast of this film was quite large, and in atleast 4 minutes 98% of the cast is wiped out! It's kind of like someone knew they were running out of film or money or something and so they decided to dispatch a huge portion of the cast in timely fashion! Even Jason has never worked this fast, and while this part of the movie could've been fun, the impossible, poorly executed, and downright looney ways the characters are killed off totally ruins it. Add to that the last few remaining characters after the huge slaughter scene end up killing each other off near the end in those *Oops I thought you were someone else* situations. The final act of this film plays out in very bizarre fashion, although it does offer up a few funny moments, like when one of the cannibals bitchslaps a guy face first into the front of a truck for talking trash to him. I've gotta give Viel credit for that scene, it was extremely funny. However moments like these are few and far between in this movie and most of the time while I was watching it, I spent scratching my head or shaking it. Slasher movies don't get any worse than this, and while the dark, spooky woods of Ireland setting and the creature FX were major positives in the movie, everything else fell very flat. The icing on this bitter cake comes when Viel decides to toss us a twist ending, which utterly fails due to the fact that it made absolutely no sense, and based on everything which takes place beforehand with this surviving character is actually by all logic an impossible turn of events. If you're looking for a slasher movie to just gross you out, then you might wanna check out "Evil Breed". However, if you like your slasher films a bit smarter and alot more coherent, then avoid it at all costs.
Positives:Spoky setting of the woods of Ireland was effective in creating a scary mood to the movie. The villains were nasty looking enough to be worthy of some slight stomach turning.
Negatives:Bad script, terrible characters, and very poor editing. All capped off by a serious WTF?? Ending.
Overall:A true exorcise in how "Not" to make a slasher movie.
