Horror movies &stuff Interviews actor Brian Lloyd
Brian Lloyd is certainly one of those actors on the way up. After doing films such as "Doll Graveyard" where he went toe to toe with a spear weilding doll (and lost), he's recently landed a few recurring roles on the cable series "Huff", the tv series "CSI:New York", and has some roles coming up in a tv series on the new "CW" network. In this interview though...Brian talks "Evil Bong", the upcoming horror film in which he acts alongside Bill Moseley, Tommy Chong, and Tim Thomerson.
MR. H:Where were you born and where'd you grow up?
Brian:Grand Fort North Dakota. I went to school in Grand Fort and graduated before I movied to L.A.
MR. H:You're in Charles Bands upoming horror film "Evil Bong", tell us about your character in "Evil Bong".
Brian:Basically the stoner dick Jock guy, and my character's girlfriend in the film is sort of a flusy.
MR. H:You've done 3 horror pictures so far, do you like doing horror pictures as an actor, or is this just a stepping stone to other material that you'd prefer to work on?
Brian:Both actually, I enjoy doing films in this genre, the whole stoner comedy thing..but it's definitely helping my career as well. Charles is great to work with also, especially because this is his genre.
MR. H:Taking on a picture like "Evil Bong", have any of your friends been razzing you about starring in the film?? It's certainly not your "typical" horror movie.
Brian:Absolutely but for the most part they just think the title and me getting to work with Tommy Chong is pretty cool. Yeah this movies definitely unlike your classic horror film though, because it's just me the all american jock guy and my roommates come over to smoke and they bring some girls along, we party and smoke from this bong, and our souls get sucked into the bong world. But for the most part my friends who are all back in Minneapolis have been pretty supportive.
MR. H:What did you try to bring to the table in this film, what did you feel ultimately that you could add to the character you played?
Brian:Comedy relief..sort of like the Stifler character. Well not "exactly" like the Stifler character but bringing a little bit of comedy but not that much.
MR. H:How was it working with genre vets like Phil Fondacaro, Bill Moseley, Charles Band the director, and Tim Thomerson. Are you a huge fan of any of those guys??
Brian:Tim Thomerson I mean he's awesome that's the dad from "Iron Eagle" ya know? He's a legend..he's the kind of guy who could walk up to you and punch you in the mouth and you'd say "Thank you"..he's a mans man. It was really fun working with him and Phil and those guys.
MR. H:Were you apprehensive at all at first about taking on a role in this movie? Some people when they see a film like this come across their desk their first reaction is "HUH?"
Brian:No I wasn't apprehensive, I mean this movie was big compared to some of the previous movies I've done with Charlie.I had a great time shooting the movie and it was a SAG film so I was paid decently.
MR. H:After shooting was all over, did they let you keep any props from "Doll Graveyard", an earlier Full Moon film you were in or "Evil Bong"?
Brian:No not really well they let us keep the wardrobe nothing major though. I took some pics of the flophouse though. and you know the beers we were drinking in the film were real beers so it was fun guzzling those down.
MR. H:Let's say for example you had to convince a customer to rent out a copy of "Evil Bong". Give us your best pitch to the customer...why should he or she see this film?
Brian:It's a fun movie, and a great stoner comedy you can grab your beer and your bong and just have fun watching it!
MR. H:You were in another SCI-FI/Horror film that hit dvd just a few months ago called "Candy Stripers". How was the experience working on that film?
Brian:Great, Snowfall Films produced it and Kate Robbins wrote and directed it. It was more of a scarier SCI-FI Horror film and we shot it in the span of over 4 weeks. The DP and actors were great though, and I got some good reels out of it.
MR. H:Give us the name of one guilty pleasure horror film of yours. A film that you know most people hate but you personally enjoy watching from time to time.
Brian:Well I liked "28 Days Later" but I wouldn't say alot of people hated that per say...uhhh.."Ghoulies" I liked that movie with the little things running around, "Gremlins" did you see "Gremlins"?
MR. H:Yeah I did but "Gremlins" wasn't exactly hated.
Brian:I'm trying to think..gimme some names of some horror films that people hate.
MR. H:Well most people hate all of the "I know" movies, "Urban Legend", most of the "Scream" films past the original.
Brian:I did like that one film where the rednecks are jamming at the end *laughs*
MR. H:"Cabin Fever"?
Brian:Yeah "Cabin Fever"!
MR. H:I guess you could say that's a guilty pleasure of sorts.
MR. H:So what's coming up for you next, more horror films or are you branching out a bit?
Brian:Definitely branching out, I'm doing tv stuff I had a role on "Huff" on Showtime and I'm possibly going to have some recurring roles on the CW network, and maybe do some sports films.
MR. H:What are your fame goals? Would you be happy with a little bit of fame, a marginal amount of fame, or do you want to be at Will Smith status before it's all said and done?
Brian:I don't really have any fame goals, I just like working as an actor because it's really what I love doing..and if I can work as an actor and make enough money to live comfortably then I take that as success. Like that guy James Denton on "Desperate Housewives". He's a really really hardworking guy. If that kind of fame comes then yea of course it would be awesome but if I'm on a show, and people just know me as Adam then I'm fine with that.
End.
