Duckpond - Spring 2005
Things on the water have been pretty quite over the winter, but there has been plenty of activity on dry land. Some of you will know that the RYA was not keen to award us full recognition for our training courses at the end of last year. A lot of effort has been put into getting the boats and equipment ‘ship-shape and Bristol fashion’. Thanks to all those who were involved in the working parties.
The Spring sailing course started on 14th April, and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that a second visit from the RYA while the course is running will be a bit more positive, with our full Level 2 recognition being returned.
Dates for the Diary
Saturday 2nd July 2005 is the big one, the Brookvale and Sparkhill Regatta,
and weather and enthusiasm permitting some pleasant socialising at the evening
BBQ.
The committee has debated long and hard about how to get back the interest in weekend sailing. With such busy lives we all lead nowadays it is difficult to get down to the club on a regular basis, but if we all do our best then there are plenty of good times afloat to be had. Sailing will be on the first and third Saturday in the month. It has been suggested that a member of the club should take on the role of OOD for each Saturday’s sailing. If the turnout is good and willing, then racing will commence, but if you just want to potter around the pond then you are very welcome too. The dates and duty rota have been allocated, if you cannot do your date, please try and swap with someone else on the list and let us know.

The worldwide web is still a strange world to some of our members, but some of you will notice from the top of this letter that the club has a new web address. The website is long overdue an update, take a look at it and let us have your suggestions on how to improve the site.
Finally, I’m sure you will all join me in wishing our Treasurer, Bob
Holmes, a speedy recovery from his recent back operation. Get well soon Bob.
