TRUTH that Jonah teaches ACTION that Jonah invites
1. We may know GOD and His ways
What stands out in the revelation that GOD makes of himself is his love, grace, forgiveness and mercy. We must permit this knowledge about GOD's nature to give form to our being and our character.
4:1-11
Never underestimate the mercy of the LORD and his desire to forgive. Never discourage anyone who wants to repent, or feel aggrieved when an enemy decides to repent and escapes from the judgment that you feel he deserves.
2. Instructions for growing in piety
A pious person responds instantly and positively to the divine mandate. GOD's people aren't obstinate.
1:1-3
Do immediately what the LORD indicates. Remember that stubbornness will occasion problems.
3. Keys for a wise life
The wise person understands that GOD responds to disobedience making circumstances turn against us. The LORD knows what is required for a change in our hearts and conduct to take place. The road we follow to escape from GOD will become, thanks to his providence, the avenue of our repentance.
1:17; 2:7; 3:3
Remember that GOD doesn't accept your disobedience. Repent and obey. Change your attitude and behavior.
4. Thus is sin
We can't allow known sin to be maintained without being confronted in the lives of those who love and serve the LORD. Since sin can't be stand in the presence of GOD's holiness, prayer is vain and useless until your confession removes the spiritual barrier that we have built between Him and us.
1:4-15
Face the sin in your life. Confess without diluting any errant conduct. Remember that you can't hide it from GOD.
