Community & Worldwide Mission

God sends the church in the power of the Holy Spirit to exercise compassion in the world. Such acts of compassion, done as a church and individually, are the work of the church as the body of Christ. The church is called to minister to the immediate needs and hurts of people through feeding the hungry, comforting the grieving, caring for the sick, visiting the prisioners, feeding the captives, sheltering the homeless and befriending the lonely.

Peace Memorial is involved locally, nationally, and internationally in the following areas:

Peace Memorial Child Development Center(CDC) is an all day child care program for preschool aged children of low-income families. The program has a paid director and staff and welcomes volunteers to work with individual children.

Cold Weather Homeless Shelter is a partnership in the Coalition for the Homeless to sponsor an evening meal, sleeping space and breakfast in Roebling Hall when the temperature falls below 40 degrees.

Religious Community Services (RCS) is a local coalition of 77 congregations providing a variety of community services such as the Food Pantry program, Emergency Housing, The Stepping Stone, The Haven, SAS Traditional Housing, and Furniture Warehouse.

Isaiah's Inn provides housing for single parent families in need of temporary help.

Mission Work of Presbyterian Women includes making school kits and health kits for Beth-El Mission and the World Mission program, preparing health kits for the Homeless Shelter, sewing layettes for a mission in Miami, and gathering items for the Ingathering.

Missionaries sponsored in part by Peace Memorial are Timothy and Juji Boyle in Japan.

Benevolences from the yearly budget of Peace Memorial give 25% of church income to more than 25 agencies locally and throughout the world. Special offerings made throughout the year include the monthly Hunger Offering, the Peacemaking Offering, the Joy Gift Offering in December, Blanket Offering in January, Witness Offering and One Great Hour of Sharing at Easter.
