Logistics Operations Manager

On site integrated Logistics Manager at Talley Metals (Carpenter Technology Company), a third party logistics provider.  Directly responsible for aspects of Carrier Management - dedicated Ryder tractors/trailers, and contract carriers.  Manage all the day-to-day operations for transportation, shipping, and receiving.  Coordinate all inbound and outbound freight via Ryder managed trucks and contract carriers.  Coordinate all dedicated truckloads of material such as steel billets, wire rod, coils, rebar, and support supplies for the Talley Mill. Oversee distribution center operation personnel, loaders, shipping, and receiving.  Reduced the overtime man-hours – by changing loading and shipment time.

·         Increased the customers on time delivery performance in the first three months from 37% to 89%.  Currently shipping and transportation OTD is 100%.

·         Re-negotiated all shipping lanes and freight rates, additionally establishing several new lanes to realize the customer an estimated annual savings of over $300K in the first year.

·         Coordinate with sales, buyers, dispatchers, and customer service on a daily basis.  Which through communication and location visits has strengthened relations.

·         Operated and managed the flow of product in the last phases of the manufacturing process utilizing the customers shipping management system. 

·         Created numerous spreadsheets and reports on a weekly/monthly basis for relay of information to the customer in a consolidated form.

·         Prepared and collated all associated paperwork to effect shipment and transportation to the customer such as the bill of lading, packing list, and product certifications.

Solectron, West Columbia, SC                                                                                                    1998 to 2002

Distribution Shipping Manager

Managed all outbound freight in a computer-manufacturing environment.  Coordinated carrier shipments to maximize freight to end customers.  Resolved all freight tracking issues via carrier representatives.  Improved ISO 9001 and new (2000) processes for responsible areas to achieve ISO certification.  Assigned as the ISO Primary Information Coordinator (PIC) and additionally created and implemented 14 - ISO processes for responsible areas.  Responsible for all Core and Contract personnel covering two shifts.  Implemented several processes for ensuring timely shipment, to meet or exceed customer ship dates (CSD) along with audit of shipment records for inventory accuracy.  Introduced cost saving initiatives for product packaging.  Responsible for supervising and coordinating the day to day activities of the order processing operation, which include supervising and training all hourly personnel, productivity and quality goals, maintaining safety programs and administering company policies.  

·         Supervised operations of two shipping dock areas for a build to order (BTO) distribution operation.  Maintain accurate finished goods inventories above 99.8 percent. 

·         Implemented cost savings initiatives over the past two years, which reduced expenditure of operating cost, which aided positive results for company P&L. 

·         Awarded the company’s highest personal award twice for personal contributions that exceed the position and job requirements.

·         Managed two buildings and three Shipping and Receiving Areas with 24 loading and unloading dock doors.  Additionally monitored all activities of truck load (TL), less than truck load (LTL), and 12 metered carrier terminals (FedEx, UPS, Airborne, DHL, and one BAX system).
