Ios
Diary.
Sun
29th July
Today was travel day to Ios (my favourite island). Again after arriving
we were met by the hordes of locals asking for our patronage at
their establishments. We went to one where we knew we had friends
& soon after arriving had met a new bunch of antipodean travellers.
If I had found a great beach in Santorini I was about to be blown
away by the one in Ios. Mylopotos beach is by far the best beach
I can say Ive ever been on. The water is warm, its crystal
clear, the sand is golden, theyve got deck chairs, umbrellas,
jetboats taking people out on inflatable bananas/tires/water skiing/wakeboarding
The hut on the beach was blaring Bob Marley and the shops behind
sold everything from inflatable Lilos to ice creams, to diving masks
and snorkels. It had everything & I felt at home. Im even
thinking about becoming a jet boat driver
That night I gave in (screaming and wailing) to going into the village
where all the nightlife is. I even got dragged into a bar where
there was a wet T-shirt competition. Funnily enough all 4 of the
finalists were Irish I guess Ios is warmer than Dublin.
That night we ended up at the Scorpion Bar which was apparently
the best nightclub on the island. It soon lived up to its
reputation and a great night of dancing to trance music was had.

Mon 30th July
I hate Mondays. I really do. Especially when you have to wake up
at mid morning, have a bite to eat & then head down to a golden
beach. Yep, I really hate Mondays.
Nothing else
really happened today with the exception of the Ultimate Party
pub-crawl that we went on that night. Around 150 - 180 people attended
this stumbling event and whilst the alcohol and pizza provided wasnt
very extensive a good night was still had. Some of the guys got
involved in the games and by the end of the night there was still
a small group of us out partying. Again finishing up at the Scorpion
Bar.

Tues 31st July
The last day of the month was again spent lying on the beach (as
you do in that part of the world) hey when in Rome, do as
the Romans do.

Wed 1st Aug
The highlight of today was, after doing my washing and laying on
the beach, was watching Manchester United playing Celtic on the
TV. It felt really funny to be watching the game, both because I
was in the Greek Islands so far away, but also because I hadnt
been following what had been going on back home. I felt completely
removed from my own world, as if I was looking back in at my life
through a window. It was a funny feeling but one that went away
soon after kick off when Celtic went ahead 2 0. We lost 4-3.
Enough said.
