Maximises resources in two ways
Confidence and support
You can be confident in the knowledge that the Traditional Saturday School materials have been developed over several years and are being used successfully by other tutors. You will have the support of Traditional Saturday School training and advice behind you all the way.
Job satisfaction
You will be your own boss, building up Saturday School to fit in with your needs. You will have the satisfaction and enjoyment of seeing the progress small groups of children can make with your good teaching and a structured course.
- Senior Course 1
Reading practice, comprehension and vocabulary work are given at the student's own level. Spelling is developed, including familiarisation with common spelling rules, and students are helped to improve their handwriting.
- Junior and Senior Course 2
These courses contain new work on reading, spelling and handwriting, and introduce essay writing and punctuation.
- Junior and Senior Course 3
Each course completes one year's work with new reading, spelling and handwriting material, plus dictionary work.
Each course is complete in itself, so a student may take one or all of the courses, joining the scheme at any point.
The reading scheme is supplied, together with over a hundred reading and original spelling games, plus all lesson material ready to use for teacher and pupils. The phonic scheme is unique to the Traditional Saturday School, effective, well-written and brilliantly illustrated.
The cost to the student
Each two-hour ten week course is at present £195 (UK). A deposit of £35 (UK) is payable on booking, and the remainder of the fee is payable at the first session. Your outlay begins to be recouped quickly. (pupil fee can be varied)
There are usually six students in each two-hour session, so that one Junior and one Senior session on Saturday mornings would produce a gross fee income of £2,340 for a weekly total of four hours' tuition time over ten weeks.
The cost of the franchise
) A one-off fee of (at present) £1,500 (UK), which gives you the right to use the proven Traditional Saturday School methods exclusively in your area. Most of this charge covers the cost of materials: the reading scheme (which can also be used in your private practice), a large number of reading games to go with the scheme and original spelling games, all professionally printed. There is a comprehensive course manual, a starter pack of your personalised printed stationery and of course you receive the start-up advice and ongoing support you need, plus training.Second-User franchise packages are available too.
2. A royalty fee of 10% of fees each term.
You buy the students' materials - lesson notes, homework, practice sheets - ready to use. The cost is about £10 per student per term at the moment, plus the current cost of notepads and folders.
The expenses depend, of course, on individual circumstances (for example whether you hire a room or teach at home, and advertising costs in your area), but you would be helped to compile detailed costings for your area and circumstances before any commitment is made.
Expanding your business
More than one Traditional Saturday School course can be run at the weekend and you could, subsequently, run extension courses during the week. You may wish to expand with associate tutors running additional courses for you in neighbouring towns covered by your franchise.
You would be running your own business, but with the experience and practical assistance of The Traditional Saturday School behind you.
Associate Tutor packages for establishing further locations are available at £900 (UK) for each associate.
The atmosphere is orderly, friendly and positive ... The approach is traditional, too, with plenty of reinforcement through practice and homework ... (The children) like it here.Education Guardian
A system for improving literacy skills that uses traditional teaching values ... and the system is spreading fast ... Here they aim for a series of small successes that quickly build confidence. The Teaching Student
Learning in small groups can reduce the cost. Teacher Pat Lovering began The Traditional Saturday School in 1988 for children aged 7 -12 who need help with reading, spelling and handwriting; today there are 30 branches. Good Housekeeping
WHAT PARENTS SAY ABOUT THE SATURDAY SCHOOL:
Very impressed! .... it has helped him cope with school work more easily ... he really enjoyed it. C.A. (Washington)
The regular weekly spelling practice was particularly helpful ... the fact that a little homework was done regularly, increased and maintained a better than normal standard of work ... in writing as well as spelling. D.V.(Sunderland)
My son thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and looked forward to going. The teaching was excellent and has given him confidence with his reading and writing. J.J. (Dunstable)
We liked all aspects of the course ... Recognition and reward were the real key, learning was good fun and A. asked to complete the course himself, although we had had to talk him into the first lesson! P.L. (Manchester)
Since M. has been on the Saturday School course, we have all seen a marked improvement in every aspect of her education ... she now seems to show confidence and enthusiasm with her reading, writing and spelling ...the summer report was excellent compared with previous terms. M.W. (Co Durham).
and many more .........
WHAT FRANCHISEES SAY ABOUT THE SATURDAY SCHOOL:
Professionally very satisfying .... the results of your efforts are evident very quickly -- it's really wonderful watching the children "blossom". As a business, it is at present unique and filling a gap in the market .... it is good to know so many children are improving their skills and also their future schooling prospects, who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to do so. The materials are good -- well organised and structured, so the children learn thoroughly and progress steadily at their own pace ... plenty of sensible and practical help and advice if you need or want it. H.C. (Reading)
Mrs Lovering (previous franchisor) has provided me with a fully professional package ... I felt the franchise fee represented particularly good value for money and her valued advice and services have always been freely available in an especially friendly and courteous way. P.C. (Tamworth)
Prospective franchisees need to be qualified ( minimum Cert. Ed., or equivalent) and experienced tutors in the Primary field. References will always be taken up and names will be checked against List99(UK).
