Truth in Action throughout Titus

How the life of the Spirit enlivens works of faith in the believer!

TRUTH that Titus teaches

ACTION that Titus invites

1. Instructions for growing in holiness
Depending on the grace of GOD (holiness is impossible any other way) the consecrated person is an example of self-control. He says "No!" to unholy and worldly attitudes, and says, "Yes!" to a life of righteousness and holiness. This supposes conscious obedience to civil authorities. Something fundamental in the consecrated life is the constant readiness to realize good works! The sanctified person's talk is always humble, gentle and never scandalous.
2:11-15
Remain firm in grace. Say "No!" to anything unholy and worldly. Control yourself in the practice of holy behavior. Zealously seek to do good!

3:1
Subject yourself and obey the civil authorities, and the authorities of the family, church and your work.

3:2
Never slander anyone. Humbly live in peace with all men and be considerate toward them.

3:8
Dedicate yourself to doing good!

3:9-11
Warn those who create divisions, and avoid them if they don't listen to a second warning.

2. Lessons for leaders
Christian leaders aren't called to achieve their directive functions by themselves. On the contrary, they should incorporate other faithful, qualified people to help them attend to GOD's people. The first obligation of the Christian leader is to teach. He has to instruct others how to live in holiness, no matter how old they are. He must also protect the Church of GOD from false teachers and liars who take advantage of GOD's people. The leader's holy teachings should first come from the example of his own life. People should be able to look at the leader and say, "That's how I should live". He should also be competent at revealing the truth.
1:5-9
Leaders, designate prepared elders to share the ministry with you. Be sure that they practice the truth and are able to communicate effectively.

1:10-16
Leaders, silence the rebellious! Identify and energeticly admonish those who only know how to talk and seek to deceive others. Prevent the ruin of homes and churches, by not allowing false doctrines to be taught.

2:1-10
Leaders, assume an active role in teaching others how to live in an exemplary way, with self-control and fruitful lives.

2:7,8
Leaders, teach with the precept as well as example. Be examples of excellent character and self-control. Don't allow your words to be an occasion to accuse you.

2:9,10
Leaders, teach your people to be excellent employees, to not steal or rebel unjustly against authorities; to always stay faithful and not to stain their reputation at work.
