Truth in Action throughout ROMANS

How the life of the Spirit enlivens works of faith in the believer!

TRUTH that Romans teaches

ACTION that Romans invites

1. Key lessons in the faith
Having faith means you decide to believe, boldly and without reserve, what GOD has said. The faith of the twentieth century should learn again to believe all the testimony of the Scripture. Among the keys to life in the faith is the reality of our conversion. Faith allows us to live, as never before, for the good of others.
1:16
Proclaim the gospel energetically.

4:17,18
Free the creative power of the Word of GOD, believing in it amidst all difficulties.

4:20-25
Stand firm when you're tempted by unbelief, in the security that GOD fulfills all his promises.

6:1-10
Understand that you have been crucified with Christ through baptism.

Believe that you should also be joined to Jesus in his death, burial and resurrection.

15:1-3
Live in such a way that you strengthen the weak in the faith. Dedicate yourself to the edification of your neighbor.

2. Steps toward a dynamic devotion
The Word of GOD, inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the only true means to transform the human heart. Salvation by faith is a unique event, whereas the renewing of the mind is a continual process. The disciple gives himself over to the Word of GOD in order to be transformed in holiness, into someone who radiates Christ and is radically different than the people of the world. Spiritual disciples, who desire to grow spiritually, deeply study the Word of GOD, because they will find in it the key to a closer relationship with their living LORD, and a more intimate contact with the Holy Spirit.
10:17
Be steadfast in reading and studying the Word of GOD. Remember that your faith will only grow in the measure that you feed yourself GOD's Word.

12:1,2
Allow the Word of GOD and his Holy Spirit to radically transform your way of thinking.
Renew your mind in order to know GOD's will and put it into practice, offering your body in living sacrifice.

15:4
Recognize that the Old Testament was written for the Church through the Spirit. Incorporate the Old Testament into your daily study of the Bible.

3. Keys to a wise life
The two natures of the believer can cometimes deceive and confuse him. The wisdom that is found in Romans can help him manage the conflict, identifying what aspects of his behavior come from the life of the Holy Spirit, and which come from the activity of the flesh. Thus, he can navigate the ocean of the new life, directed by the wisdom and intelligence of the Spirit.
1:18-23
Understand that justice comes because of our sins. Remember that those people decided to reject GOD.

2:24
Be perceptive to the reality that, according to the way that you live, you will either honor and glorify GOD or cast reproach and blasphemy upon his name.

8:7,8
Don't forget that any hostile or disobedient tendency toward GOD's Word comes from the flesh.

13:8-10
Remember that love is an indispensible essential for all believers. Understand that undervaluing love means that you rebel against GOD.

4. Steps to confront sin
Romans reveals a new and victorious way to confront sin. Living free of sin is now made possible because we are no longer its slaves, but have become GOD's servants, able to choose righteousness instead of following the desires of the old nature. Obeying the Word of GOD provides us with a new, holy nature.
6:11-14
Say "no" to sin each time it approaches you. Remember that you have truly been freed from its demands.

6:16-23
Obey Christ, your new Master, and not the old master, sin.

7:17,20
Believe with full conviction that it's your old sinful nature, not the new one in Christ, that manifests itself in sinful actions.

5. Directions to grow in the Spirit
Thanks to the presence of the Holy Spirit in us, the true life of Christ is manifested in our mortal bodies. In the measure that we give ourselves to the LORD, Jesus himself becomes, in us and through us, the perfect fulfillment of the Law and the Word of GOD.
8:1-11
Remember that the Law is fulfilled in us by the Holy Spirit. Know that his presence in you is really the life of Christ in yours.

8:13-17
Decide to live in the Spirit. Put to death the attitudes and behavior that come from the flesh. Remember that you have been adopted as a son of GOD, calling him "Father".
