| TRUTH that I John teaches |
ACTION that I John invites |
1. Steps toward showing the love of GOD.
GOD shows us through Jesus Christ, that we can have the light of life thanks to the Holy Spirit. Our mission is to allow that life to remain in us and to continue radiating GOD's glory. This illuminates the lives of others, and extends GOD's community. Love toward others is the sure sign that GOD lives in us and that we rejoice in the companionship of his love. |
1:3,4
Live filled with joy. Have fellowship with GOD and his people.
2:24,25
Allow the Word of GOD to live in you, so that you can live in GOD, because you have eternal life!
3:7-15
Understand that righteousness is manifested by conduct. Practice righteousness. Love your brothers!
4:17,19
Understand that fear reveals an absence of love. Know that the presence of Christ is always manifested by love. |
2. Steps toward healing
Living in the world without participating in the spirit of the world is the Christian calling. When the Spirit of GOD reveals the true spiritual poverty in which the world lives, it's easier to overcome the temptations that try to seduce us to turn to that condition. When we understand the fullness of our inheritance in Christ, all the poverty that the world offers is revealed. When we truly place our sentiments in GOD, the desires of the flesh cease to be a problem. As opposed to Lot's wife, who refused to renounce the world, we lift our sights to the glorious hope of the love, life and light where GOD reigns eternally. |
2:9-11
Remember that hatred means that you are in darkness.
2:15-17
Don't place your sentiments or sacrifice yourself for something that 1) appeals to the appetites of the flesh, 2) foments greed and ambition, or 3) arouses pride or arrogance.
5:21
Don't allow anything to harm, even slightly, your worship, service or devotion to GOD. |
A step toward faithful obedience
Faith makes us understand that there is no other alternative than obedience for someone who knows Christ and has been born of his Spirit. |
2:3-6
Remember that only those who obey Jesus really know him. Understand that obedience is the primary evidence of the love of GOD. Know and believe that only those who learn to live like Jesus, know and love him. |
4. Keys to a wise life
Wisdom takes time to discern which spirit is behind every teaching and word. Unless it professes the real incarnation of Jesus Christ, the virgin-born son of GOD, the spirit is not of GOD. The fruit of faith is obedience to GOD's commandments, and the result of obeying GOD is manifested in love for everyone else. |
2:29
Understand that the greatest evidence of the "new birth" is your behavior and attitude.
3:4-9
Know that the continuous and voluntary practice of sin in life contradicts a genuine conversion.
3:11-15
Know that constant hatred is impossible for those who are in Christ, and will inevitably drag believers down toward the world.
3:16-18
Know that love denies its own interests to benefit others, and is manifested in your daily performance.
4:1-6
Exercise discernment when you hear any teaching. Make sure that every teaching conforms to GOD's Word.
5:1-8
Understand that one who is born again loves all the other believers, and obeys the Word of GOD and of the Holy Spirit.
5:16,17
Pray for the believers who are in sin. Know that every illegality is sin. |
5. Key lessons in the faith
Faith is based on the knowledge of GOD and his character. The spirit of the world is in opposition to GOD. When we determine to stand firm in the faith, the world loses the control that it exerts on us. |
3:1,2
Look toward the future to see Christ in his Coming. Know that you will be transformed into his likeness when He comes.
3:21-24
Base your confidence in the testimony of the Holy Spirit and in an obedient growth.
4:4
You should be assured that the victory is already ours in Christ.
5:4
Know that all those who have been born again can never be ultimately defeated.
5:14,15
Practice the principles of prayer filled with faith. Know that GOD: 1)hears all the prayers that are in accordance with his will, and 2) says "yes" to every prayer he hears. |
6. Keys to a dynamic life in the Church
Unity is the key to the power of the local church. The enemy seeks to destroy its unity, introducing confusion into the congregations to create divisions and quarrels. When Christians refuse to accuse or reject each other, preferring to forgive and love each other, unity replaces the fights, and the church receives the power of the Holy Spirit. |
1:5-10
Be frank and transparent in all that you do. Admit your weaknesses before GOD. Trust in Him to cleanse and forgive you.
2:18,19
Remember that the devil is the cause of all divisions in the body of Christ. |
