| The Anaheim Mighty Ducks
signed the Red Wings star center Sergei Fedorov to a five year 40 million
dollar deal. The first two years a guaranteed and the other are Sergei Fedorov's
option. Fedorov is a great skater with a devastating slap shot. He won the
MVP in 1994 with 54 goals and 64 assists. Sergei should help make up for
the loss of star left winger Paul Kariya. The Ducks say that Fedorov will
be the main man next season. Fedorov so far has played his 13 year career
with Detroit. This is what Red Wings' GM Ken Holland had to say about this, "I would like to thank Sergei for his 13 years with the Detroit Red Wings and wish him well in the future. We worked very hard over the past eight months to keep Sergei in Detroit, and we are disappointed he did not choose to remain a Red Wing, but in the end it was simply not meant to be." This is what Sergei Fedorov had to say in a conference call about the signing and about becoming the main player on the ducks, "I was looking for that particular employment in Detroit. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but we did succeed as a team. That was more important than Sergei Fedorov. Playing the kind of role I think I will be playing, I'm thrilled. I enjoy the challenge that I will be a leading player. It will be more work for me, but I'm up for it. I'm looking forward to a different type of season." Ducks' GM Bryan Murray said. "It's an exciting day for the Mighty Ducks franchise. Sergei Fedorov is a great addition to our team. He's one of the most exciting and entertaining players in all of hockey. His speed, puck skills and creativity will help our younger players in particular." |
