The Red Wings signed All-star left winger Ray Whitney to fill the lost scoring with the loss of Sergei Fedorov to the Ducks. They signed Whitney to a 3 year contract with an option on the 2006-07 season. Ray Whitney is great set up man who had a career high 52 assists last season.
This is what Red Wings GM Ken Holland had to say about his acquisition of Ray Whitney, "We were looking to add a player that would fit in as a top-six forward on our team. "Ray is an excellent offensive player who led his team in scoring last season and can play any forward position."
This is what Ray Whitney had to say about being signed by the Detroit Red Wings, "It's an honor to be in this locker room. I see some of the names in there and I'm really looking forward to the season." When asked how it feels to be a Red Wing this is what he had to say, "It’s more like a dream for a guy who grew up living and breathing hockey and being around the Stanley Cup days in Edmonton, and then to have the opportunity to play with maybe that type of team is a real honor. It’s a real honor to be in this locker room. I see some of the names there and I’m really looking forward to the season."
