The horse reproduces sexually and internally. The mares(female) are in season for 5 days every 3 weeks during summer. The equine pregnancy lasts for 11 months. When the foal(baby) is born, it must recieve the mares colostrum which contains vital nutrients and anti-bodies. About 30 minutes after birth the foal will be able to stand, drink and walk around the stall.
