All day, everyday, everywhere we go,
science is part of our daily existence. It encompasses and envelops us
– it is the foundation of an innovative, modern culture. We make
science-based decisions everyday whether we are choosing to consume
organic or genetically modified foods, or choosing energy providers.
Science is also at the core of significant political decisions that
India must face -- agricultural research, organ transplant, pesticides
manufacture and genetic engineering, to name just a few. In the
democratic setup of our society, it is imperative for all to have an
understanding of science to be able to take an informed and active
role in our country's future.
What is Science Literacy?
Science literacy encompasses knowledge of basic scientific concepts
and processes. It includes important skills such as critical thinking
and problem-solving. It enables us to understand the link between
science, technology, innovation, the economy, and our society.
