This region is very poor and has a very small population. The government has tried to help it by building Brazil's capital city, Brasilia, here. Brasilia has its own administration, and operates like Washington, D.C.; a self- contained political unit.

    The Farming Industry
Farming is a large part of the Central-west's economy. It produces lots of cattle, because of the type of vegetation, stunted underbrush and little trees, and its climate. The crops it produces are corn, beans and rice. The Central-west is Brazil's supplier of more then 20% of it's rice. This crop production has sadle destroyed many rare trees, an example of which being mahogany. This region supplies the economically depressed region's citizens a place where they can come to and live a farming life.

    Waterways
Many of the rivers of Brazil from main river basins flow through the Central-west. Because of this, the Central-west has a lot of potential for hydro-electric dams. This potential has not quite been realized completely by Brazil yet. The possibility of water travel in this region is large, however most transportation is done by road here.
