Happy Holidays to all! Seems like we just had our annual Oktoberfest show and now it’s time for Christmas! Lots of things have happened this year and it’s all flown by so quickly, and as you can tell by the title of this section, Yes Virginia there is a VP! Your new vice president is me, Bill Fielders, elected by voice vote at our last meeting. If you’ve been half-way following our club activities via the internet, you’ll no doubt have noticed the new newsletters and changes, all produced by yours truly! Our club has been on cruise control for the past year or so, primarily due to excessive travel and work commitments for both myself and our club President, Inga George. Our newsletter fell by the wayside, and as a result, the main communications link to you was broken. A large portion of our members don’t have computers and the main link to our activities was through the only communal voice we had—the newsletter. The newsletter is now back and we’re making the “Snail-Mail” the centerpiece of communication versus the internet where we mistakenly placed emphasis. Even in this day of mega, giga and terabytes, high speed connections, WIFI, LANs, WANs and digital cell phones, people still yearn for simpler, less complex things in life. (I guess that’s why we own VWs!) Now, newer Vee-Dubs essentially fall into this techie world, but we still love them just the same. We as a club are growing, expanding our roots and now we’re getting a varied assortment of VWs in the club. we have Passats, Vanagons, Jettas, and of course, the New Beetle. I just added a 2003 Sundown Orange convertible to compliment my fleet (’57 Oval, ’73 Standard Beetle, ’79 convertible) so I guess the “Bug” has a good bite on me!
We’re not just
the “Classic Beetle” Club as our logo displays anymore, we’re
becoming a multi-model organization, so if you know of a Jetta,
Toureg, New Beetle, Vanagon, Split-window etc, that wants to share
thoughts, dreams, jokes, seats, carburetors, etc,
invite them to our meetings!
And speaking of meetings, we’re going to change the meeting
day/time for the club. Saturdays
just seem to be a difficult time to attend.
If you’re at the beach, your kid’s ballgame, mowing the
lawn, or otherwise engaged in summertime activities, it’s hard to
drop everything, get cleaned up and make the 5:30 pm meeting then
get back in time for supper. So
we’d like to change our meeting time/place to the first
Wednesday of each month (next will be 7 January 2004) at
Matt’s on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston (across from the new
Target … or there about). We’d like input from you, our members,
as to when and where would be the most convenient, so call Inga at
843-218-5574 Or myself at
843-797-6283, or for those with computers, email Inga at And speaking of members, we did add some new folks this year, Charlie Tupper, who brings us “Bessie” his ’62 unrestored Beetle, Donnie Martin from Florence, whose ’73 Bug took Best of Show this year, and others who shall remain nameless for now (only because I don’t have their names and cars available to me yet!) so membership is up, now let’s see if we can work on getting more of you to the meetings! I’ll try and do my best to keep you all informed, and communication is a two-way street-- I can’t put your names and your achievements out to the world in this letter if I don’t have them! So send me anything you’d like to put in the letter and I’ll get it in there! Thanks for being loyal members over the years and we’re looking forward to planning a new year of events, socials, get-togethers, joy-rides, whatever! See you at the meetings!
