Is it Springtime Yet...???

Greetings, fellow VW aficionados! Well it looks as if spring might be just around the corner, it's starting to warm up some and when the weeds begin to grow in my backyard I'll know it's here! We had lots of things going on this month, so let's get to 'em!

First on the list is to send our Best Wishes to Joyce Atkinson and wish her a speedy recovery from surgery and rehabilitation after a lengthy stay at that wonderful resort called Trident Medical Center. Both Joyce and Albert ("Tater") have had a few tough hurdles to go over lately; all of us at LCVWC support you, and if there's anything you need just let us know! Get Well Soon!! Looking forward to you joining us on some of our upcoming events!

Charlie Tupper and Bill Fielders took a little ride earlier in the month to see how the gang at the Full Moon Bus Club's annual "Freeze Yer Toe" campout at Edisto Beach went. We ran into "Snoopy", Dave Bennett and a few other folks there and it looked like a good time was had by all.  The weather was not so cooperative on Friday night, with lots of wind and rain, but with the dawning of Saturday morning, the clouds disappeared, the sun came out and left just a cool, stiff breeze. We took a few photos, so check them out at our FMBC  campout link on our web page.

Bill received an email from Jim Lantry, our "President Emeritus", who's now sunning himself on the bright sandy beaches of beautiful Kuwait!  Jim will be spending the next six months or so there, serving with the thousands of other soldiers, sailors, and marines, and Jim is in for a rousing good time there!  So Jim, if you're reading this, just keep telling yourself it's only six months,  like Bill did when he spent six months there, and it'll be over before you know it! (he tried clicking his heals together and repeating "There's no place like home...", didn't work for him, maybe it will for you!) We'll stay in touch with Jim and maybe get a Care Package put together and send it over to help through his "vacation"!

We recently had a get-together at Gene's Haufbrau on Savannah Highway on the 21st, and had a wonderful turnout!  Three new couples attended, consisting of Dawn and Harold Mahan, Rhonda and Al Sanders, and John and Susan O'Reilly. Harold and Dawn live on Johns Island and have a ton of VWs in their yard (to quote Inga!), and he's been known to bring parts to sell at our annual Oktoberfest shows.  Harold is "retired" now, so should have more time to spend on his projects. Rhonda and Al, John and Susan have project cars they're currently working on, so it looks like we might have some good candidates for Project Days to work on. At next month's meeting we'll discuss when we can schedule a project day or two, to help our new members get their cars on the road and enjoy the summer in them! We all had a great time and I'll get some pictures posted to our web page soon and share them.

And last but certainly not least is our recent Success Story -- a 1990 VW Rabbit Cabriolet, owned by Becca Riggs.  Becca's car needed a new transmission, but like any other struggling college student, funds were low and she couldn't find any place reasonable to get one.  She surfed into our web page and after seeing our Project Car link, thought maybe we could help.  Well, to make a long story short, a few emails were exchanged, then some phone calls, and finally we were able to get her a used transmission at a great price, installed by none other than one of the best certified VW mechanics in town, our good friend Brad Packard.  It took only a few simple phone calls and Brad had the situation taken care of and now Becca is once again enjoying the streets and sights of Charleston in her convertible.

A hearty round of applause and a big Thank You!! goes out to Brad!!

There's lots more in this letter, so on to the stories...!
