Moto-Torino
The Italians are no strangers to
designing Volkswagens, just look at the Karmann Ghia and Golf to name but two.
The now defunct concern of Moto-Torino of Turin, undertook an unknown number of
conversion in the late 1950s, only one of which still lives on.
The Moto-Torino is not unlike a
Wizard roadster in shape, but was a well built steel coachbuilt conversion
rather that a fiberglass built kit. Again, it had a modified Beetle decklid,
unlike the long Hebmüller cover, but the Moto-Torino used many cabriolet parts.
The surviving example was built in
1959 on a 1957 chassis. This survivor has spent its life in the USA, having been
built in Turin, serviced in Germany and shipped straight to Florida in 1959.

Problem:
Odometer inoperative. The speedometer itself
works fine and the cable is also
OK but no miles register.
Tip:
Your bug desires eternal life. No seriously, the odometer gear inside
the
speedometer has cracked and it's no longer driving the shaft. These
gears are
made of plastic and eventually, they all break. The replacement gear
(which is
brass) can only be installed by removing the bezel and the lens from
the speedo
and taking it all apart. If you need yours repaired, let me know.
Parts required
are the gear, the bezel and if your lens is scratched, a new lens. If
your take
the speedo out of the car, it's not too expensive.
