April was a busy month for the club. Two area shows drew club members to Jacksonville and Savannah. The Savanah show was a lot of fun, with a caravan of 6 VW’s all the way down, and a total of 7 club members showing. We won the award for most club members, and 5 individuals won awards in various classes (Jesse Sandow, Bill Smothers, Joyce and Tate Atkinson, Eddie and Belinda Bendt, and myself). We hope to see our friends from Savanah and Hilton Head at our September show. I haven’t heard from the folks who attended the Jacksonville show, but we may want to make that one a regular event for us as well. The Riverdogs game drew a small, but enthusiastic group. I still have plenty of $2 vouchers good for any game, so we may want to try planning another outing.
New Members
A big welcome to all our new members. In the last 3-4 months, the club has had several new members join, and we’d like to take a minute to welcome all of you officially. The new members are as follows: Doug Smith of Summerville. Doug has a beetle that he’s currently working on, and someday we hope to see it up at Stokes! Larry Jessee of North Charleston. Larry is the proud owner of what is arguably the fastest car in the club, with a beautiful blue race car, complete with a chopped top, suicide doors, a custom built engine, and lots of other goodies. Dan and Jodee Branham, of Goose Creek. Dan owns 4 VW’s, second in number only to Jody Lindler. Dan’s VW’s range from old classics to a new beetle. Inga George of Mt. Pleasant. Inga is originally from the Columbus Ohio area, and was a member of the Columbus VW clubs, one of the largest in the state. She has several VW’s including an early model water-cooled Cabrio.

The Volkswagen In Cinema. Believe it or not, there is a web site dedicated solely to noting whenever a VW is pictured in a film. Some people have way too much time on their hands!
