General Information

All these philosophical discussion groups are open to all comers - just show up! Groups called a Socrates Cafe follow the Socrates Cafe format. Groups with other names experiment with different formats.

At each meeting, the group usually discusses a given topic (usually chosen on-the-spot by those in attendance) for an hour or more. Sample topics: What is justice? What does it mean to be open-minded? What is passion? What is privacy? What is intimacy? What is happiness? Is war always bad? If offered an irreversible immortality pill, would you take it?

While there are no dues, fees, etc., participants are encouraged to buy something at the café which is providing the pleasant meeting environment.

Contact (sfbayareasocrates@yahoo.com) if you want to be added to an e-mail list for monthly reminders of upcoming meetings.

Other groups are forming all the time. Group organizers may have their event added to the list by contacting (sfbayareasocrates@yahoo.com).
