I Still Love You
When you brought me home we were both so excited and happy
I was a special present for you from your Dad who you called Pappy
We had fun together running all over the yard wrestling in the grass
but i had a bad habit of exploring and finding my way into the trash

You used to feed me all the things that you didn't like from your plate
and being the good dog I was I usually didn't mind what I ate
Ahhh, those were the days when life was gay and full of fun each day
then you started to meet with your friends and didn't have time to play

I waited for you to get home from school, laying for hours by the gate
sometimes you forgot to feed and water me till it was very very late
But I still loved you through all of this, even licking the hand that hurt
yes even when you had a bad day and to me you were short and curt

Time went on and you moved off to go to college and never said goodbye
you didn't notice the tear in my eye cause you didn't think dogs cried
My heart yerns for your touch and the attention you used to give me
but I guess your too busy with your life and being wild and free

Your parents decided to put me in a 8x7 pen to make less mess
when I do get a pat or a rub nowdays I can never even guess
My joints are stiff and hurt because I don't have room to run and play
my eyes dim and I have nothing to look forward to in the next day

I look to the house hopeing to see you coming to visit with me
and maybe you would unlock the gate and once again set me free
Time has passed and now I am old and things in my body shut down
it won't be long now before they bury me in that hard cold ground

Thoughout all of this I remain faithful and I really do still love you
It is time and I slowly lay down to look for the last time the sky so blue
as the light dims and I take my last breath I look for you one last time
with a tear that forms and rolls down my nose and lands in the pineNote: no space for the text!
