Fun Spot Action Park, formely in myrtle beach, south carolina. My
first real job, and it changed my life. I was friends with so many people that
I never would have been friends w/ otherwise. It totally erased most of the
stereotypes that I had. It also made me more outgoing and friendly. It was a
great experience for me, and I'd do it again if I had the choice. The stupid
owner screwed us though. He practically gauranteed us a new park once the lease
ran out, but it turns out he had no desire to build us a new park or even renew
the lease. All the good managent quit, and he sent up some jabroni's from his
park in Florida. None of them knew what they were doing. They weren't good
enough to fix cars, so all the cars broke. They couldn't manage for crap, and
our business was significantly less than usual. They planned on running the
park with 10 employees total, when we would normally have 70 or more. Me and
Nick practically ran the park. We fixed cars, ran rides, and actually managed
the park. The real managers would just leave and put 2 16 year olds in charge.
Nick was the man. Me and him were really good friends, and were the 2 best
employees. We thought the same stuff, and ran a ride like nobody's business.
Our little joke was "Off the bridge". That was our code that meant we were
about to have to get rowdy rowdy. "Off the bridge" meant that we'd jump off one
of the bridges on to someone riding around if they were severely out of hand.
We never did it of course, but it was still cool. One of my favorite memories
is of me running Super 8, our most popular track, at night. We'd have a lot of
people stand on the sidewalk outside the park and watch the races, and I'd get
them to cheer for me, and high-five them and stuff. It was awesome! :) *sigh*
mmmeeeeemmmmoooorrriiiieeesss :P Then there was the time that we had a
wrestlign match. that was kick-a$$. Me, Nick, Kenny, and a few others went
across the street and wrestled eachother. Kenny grabbed both of us one time,
one in each arm, and just threw us together, it was great :) lol... But me and
nick still took him down a few times. It sucks tho... our second season there
was gonna be our year... me and Nick were gonna own that place.. we'd both end
up being leads, and we'd get paid mad money and shit. Man... it sucks gettin
screwed sometimes.. Funspot was an excellent experience for me though. It
introduced me to all kinds of people who'd I'd never have hung out with before.
It got rid of a lot of stereotypes I had, and was really just an awesome
experience. I think @ first people just thought "oh, it's the bosses son, blah
blah blah, yada yada yada", and that I'd be a punk. But after a while, I think
people saw the real me. I don't know how long it took, but I know in one case,
this one dude, Doug (who would I guess you could say is your stereotypical
'wigger', he was really cool tho), came up to me in my second year there and he
was like 'ya know Jason, I used to not like you. like last year, i thought you
were a pansy. but i like you now, you're a crazy mofo man". And that
meant a lot to me comin from him. So even tho it only lasted 2 years, it was
still the most amazing job ever. It'd be nice if everyone could have
experiences like what I had, to use an old cliche, i think the world would be a
better place if everyone did, honestly. I guess it helps to keep an open mind
though, and be willing to really get to know people..
