Markings and Colours
Some horses have socks and/or stockings. Socks go up to around the knee, and stockings go to about the thigh. They can be many colours. Such as, black, brown, black, chestnut, and gray.
If a horse is outside most of the time, then they will eat mostly hay and grass. However, just like a human, a horse does like a treat sometimes. If you do deside to "treat" your horse then do it at a scheduled time every day. That way the horse will know when to expect you.
Some good treats are: Carrots, Apples, Grain/Oats, Horse Pellets
Every horse requires a certain amount of different vitamins. They get these things from these foods as listed below:
Flaked Corn
Pony nuts
Bran
Coarse Mix
Chaff
Dried Sugar Beet
Salt Block
Rolled Oats
Never let a horse go around any of these plants, because they are all poisonous to them.
Ragwort
Yew
Henbane
Laburnum
Hemlock
Privet
Ground Ivy
Laurel
Foxglove
Buttercup
Horsetail
Every horse that is mainly outside and not stable kept needs at least 2ac. So if you have 2 horses you need a minimum of 4ac for them to live comfortable. A companion is also recommended when having a horse. A donkey or mule will work, but another horse is always the best. This is because they get lonely and don't really have a sort of "spirit" to them anymore. Also going riding and visiting your horse as much as possible is a good idea.
Grooming is good for you horse. It will help keep their coat neat, their skin clean, and keep them healthy. If done regularily it will help the blood circulate, and will improve their muscle tone.
Materials you will need are:
Rubber Currycomb
Metal Currycomb
Plastic Currycomb
Body Brush
Dandy Brush
Water Brush
Hoof oil and Brush
Sponges
Sweat Scraper
Stable Cloth
Hoof Pick
Tack is mainly everything that you will need to ride a horse. You can go bareback but for most people, and for the horse a saddle is prefered.
The basic things are:
Staddle
Bridle
Halter
Blanket
To make the ride safer you should ride with:
Gloves
Boots
Helmet
Jodhpurs
Whistle
Note:Make sure that you grooming supplies and tack are kept clean.
Also keep you food in a place where other animals (horses also) can't get to it.
