Morgan Freeman is the president of the United States in the present time. By the luck of some high school kids a comet is found racing towards the earth. It's path is calculated and its trajectory is towards earth. While racing to notify the proper authorities a government stargazer dies in a automobile wreak.(The only evidence is in his hummer when it crashes) This delays the presidential confirmation about the comet. A news lady pokes about in internal affairs of the whitehouse to sumble on the fact that the U.S. Government knows about a killer comet. When the News Woman plans to expose it to the world, the president must announce the horrible event about to happen. The President has a plan. A underground facilities arround the world have been adapted to serve as bomb shelters for only about a thousand people. And a Special space shuttle has been built to destroy the comet. The Shuttle is piloted by a older man who has been to the moon and back (hummm Was NASA watching this movie or what? aka John Glen) The Space Shuttle is a combination of a luner lander on the front of a big rocket. Built jointly by Russia (Or whatever they call them selves) and the United States in space attached on the MIR Space Station. The Crew mostly young astronauts (No there is no Oil Drillers) are cocky and does'nt belive the old man should be there. The Present announces that the couple of thousand people who will live in the shelters, will be drawn by random by a lottery No Men/Women above the age of 50 are allowed to live(they can't reproduce). What about Viagra??? Your Going to have to see the rest of the movie to see what happens. The only down fall about the movie is the lack of excitement. It's not a action/adventure, but I guess a drama. Theres a wierd love story in the movie and self sacrafice is the biggest point of the movie.
