1. ORBITAL PLANES
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Planes 1-6 are spaced 30 degrees apart to cover one Earth hemisphere. Planes 11-14 are spaced 45 degrees apart to cover the other hemisphere. Only one satellite is active in each plane.

2. TELEMETRY FORMAT
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The signal is 50 bits/sec. There are three sidebands at 3, 5, and 7 KHz either side of the carrier. A "1" data bit is transmitted by a frequency shift from 3 to 5 KHz or vice-versa. A "0" data bit is transmitted by no frequency shift from one bit position to the next. The 7 KHz sideband produces timing pulses at one second intervals.
3. FREQUENCY ASSIGNMENTS
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two frequency sets have been used for plane 1:
149.97/399.92 MHz and 150.03/400.08 MHz
All other planes have fixed frequency assignments as shown.
Nadezhda satellites carry COSPAS-SARSAT transponders with a 1544.50 MHz
downlink. This downlink should only be active when the satellite is
receiving a distress beacon on 121.5/243.0/406 MHz.

Naming convention FM denotes "Flight Model" 3. Signal reception Assuming that you are not an Orbcomm subscriber "listening" on an Orbcomm handheld subscriber unit, you will hear a beating noise with a period of approximately one second. The signal is very strong and may be heard on a simple receiver with a "rubber-duckie" or whip antenna. Not all of the satellites are on all of the time outside of the North American footprint. 4. Operational Status Those flight models which are marked as "operational" have completed testing and are believed to be part of the constellation which is available for active operations. Some of the newer satellites may be switched back to testing frequencies intermittently.

Ham Sat
This information is derived/compiled from the AMSAT weekly satellite status report.
MIR/VOICE operations are contingent upon the work schedules and free time of the Cosmonauts/Astronaut hams on board.
Where SSB/USB/FM is indicated without a data rate below the frequency (i.e. 9600 bps FSK), voice communications will be heard.
All CW operations are in international Morse code.
Where a CW Beacon is indicated the Morse code being transmitted contains spacecraft telemetry.
ROBOT is an automated transponder which answers a specific series of characters sent by a radio amateur. This allows an amateur to carry out a QSO or exchange of information to get a QSL card (a verification of the conversation) from the organization which built the satellite.
DO-17 is also known as DOVE, its 145.825 beacon has the ability to use a voice synthesizer to broadcast special greeting messages. messages like 'This is DOVE in space' have been heard in the past along with Christmas greetings.
