Greenwood High boys win Region I-AAAA title

MAULDIN The Greenwood High boys cross country team captured the Region I-AAAA championship at Mauldin High School Wednesday.
The girls team placed fifth.
The triumph was overdue, according to GHS coach Sammy Owen. The Eagles lost the meet by a combined six points the past two years.
"We came in having two close losses, but we came in confident," he said. "We kind of had a vendetta in this meet after the past two years.
"A lot of guys ran their best races today and it couldn't have come at a better time."
Seven Eagles Trevor Beesley, Branhan Lowther, Justin Coates, Ray Felton, Patrick Kelly, Nick Logan and J.D. Alewine qualified for the Class AAAA state cross country championship.
"This has been a long time coming. It's good to get the monkey off our backs," Owen said.
