Skinner Gets Back His Win
The National Stock Car Racing Commission modified today the penalty handed down by the NASCAR officials following post-race inspection of last Saturday's Yellow Freight 300. The penalty against crew chief C.R. Miller for unapproved cylinder heads, dropped Skinner to the 43rd position along with last-place points and money. After hearing an appeal filed by NASCAR Busch Series car owner David Ridling, the commission decided to uphold the monetary portion of the penalty but awarded driver Mike Skinner with the win and first-place points. The fine, the difference between first and last-place money which is nearly $19,000, is the largest in the history of the NASCAR Busch Series.
Skinner Disqualified, Blaney Awarded First Victory
NASCAR OFFICALS ANNOUNCE PENALTY
With the ruling, winner Mike Skinner is relegated to the 43rd position and will receive money and points for that finish, last in the running order. Skinner's penalty resulted from a violation of the Rule 20A-5,6: All cylinder heads must be NASCAR approved and all modifications must be submitted to NASCAR before any proposed modification will be eligible for approval. Mike Skinner filed an appeal to the violation causing NASCAR to place the situation on a holding pending feather inspection. T&L Engines of California, flew a representative to Hampton last night to aide in the invitation. If the appeal is found to be with out merit Dave Blaney will receive his first career victory.
