Burton Wins Alltel 200 At The Rock
Jeff Burton won his first race at the North Carolina Speedway, taking the checkered flag for the Alltel 200. Burton held off Winston Cup teammate Mark Martin to take the win. Matt Kenseth was the highest finishing Busch regular, finishing third.

Burton started in the 30th position, with the next to last pit stall on the front stretch. Burton would find his teammate Martin in the 32nd starting position and the two would work together to get to the front. Butron would pass Kenseth on lap 126 and never look back.

"I've learned with these Busch cars you have to make really big changes, so we made some really big changes," said Burton. "I had a guy behind me that I knew, wherever I went, he was going to go."

The win was a dominating one for Burton, he led 71 of the final 72 laps, only giving up the lead to Martin while pitting under a caution flag. Burton was unchallenged the rest of the way, beating Martin to the stripe by 2.647 seconds.

Burton has won two of the last three BGN races, he also won the season ending race at Homestead in 1998. The win was the tenth Grand National win of his career.
