This is my surfing page and it will give you informations about surfing in Italy, especially in Liguria, and other stuff about the sport of the kings.

Something about me

I am Davide Grazielli, 23 years old. I live near Genova, Italy, where I also study Modern History at the local university. I started bodyboarding (yes, I was a fuckin' sponger) in the summer of '95, thanks to my friend Massi, a.k.a. China, who pushed me to buy one of those shark biscuits. I suddenly found the joy and the comraderie you get out there and surfing became my addiction. Thanks god, my long time friend Otello, whom I hadn't seen for two years, heard I was a sponger, called me for a memorable sesh in Alassio: it was a day I'll never forget, because he convinced me bodyboarding was dorky and I realized he was right. I bought an used 6'7" round-pintail, which I still own, worship, and occasionaly ride, from a friend and started really surfing: it was the coming of an age, the beginning of a new era and also the end of my life as it used to be. Even now, I still think what my life would have been without surfing, and even if some parts, like school, social life, financial situation, would undoubtely be a lot better, I don't regret my choice, since I can't forget the wonderful days I spent with new and old friends in and out of the sea. Surfing brought me to France, Spain, England and Morocco with my best friends several times, and I'm planning to do more and more travelling. I'm proud to be straight edge ( but I also consider myself pretty tolerant since I don't care much about what others do) and I like old punk and hardcore music like Black Flag, Adolescents, Minor Threat, S.S.D., Dag Nasty, and also '88 bands such as Gorilla Biscuits, Insted, Youth of Today, Manliftingbanner. I find few contemporary bands intresting (apart from mighty Fugazi and San Diego finest Unbroken) but I often go to gigs and also play in a band. Apart from that I skateboard since I was 15 (and still do, skate or die!), and found the joy (and the pain) of snowboarding thanks to my little sister Daniela. Can't forget to mention I support the only real football team of my city, Genoa Football Club 1893: I'm a season ticket holder and only a massive swell can drag me out of my place in the infamous Gradinata Nord during the home matches.

Surfing in Liguria

Seen once as a joke, surfing is definitely possible in Liguria and in the whole italian coast. Sure, you'll have to wait in order to surf, because swells are not too consistent, especially during summer, but with patience and a bit of knowledge you'll catch some classic days that will make worth the wait. Surfing started in Liguria thanks to the well known Fracas brothers during the late seventies and it spreads fast: now you can find spots all along both Ponente and Levante coasts. Some of the best known are:
