Deborah Garrison was born in 1965 and was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is a Chickasaw poet, novelist, essayist, playwright, and the recipient of several major grants. Deborah is an Associate Professor in the English department at the University of Colorado where she has taught creative writing. She is also the author of four volumes of poetry: Calling Myself Home (1978), Daughters, I Love You (1981), Eclipse (1983)and, Seeing Through the Sun, which won a Before Columbus Foundation American Book Award. Her fiction includes 2 volumes of short stories and two novels, Mean Spirit (1990) and Solar Systems (1995). Her collection of essays, Dwellings: Reflections on the Natural World (1995). Deborah is one of the most popular Native American writers of her time. She recieved her M.F.A. from Vermont College in 1993. She is currently teaching fine arts and writing. Deborah is also a participant in Prevent Child Abuse in Vermont.
