Third Generation
John "Pouplar" Johnson, son of Jonathan and Mary Cook Johnson, was born in South Carolina August 6, 1799 and died in July of 1865. He married February 8, 1821, to Margaret "Peggy" Howell, daughter of Rev Carson and Nancy Ellen Cook Howell.

John and Margaret lived in Rocky Springs Township, Lexington County, now Aiken County, South Carolina. At the time of his death, the couple owned 4,259 acres on Rocky Springs Creek, waters of South Edisto River. John and Margaret also helped to organize Rocky Springs Baptist Church.
