Every robotics team must cope with an overwhelming number of expenses. Almost $10,000 alone must be paid just for competition entrace fees! In addition to registration, there are actual robot building expenses for the construction of the robot and our racer. On top of these costs are team travel, shipping, tools, and miscellaneous expenses such as team shirts. How does the robotics team manage its finances? It seeks help through corporate sponsorshipsc and engages in a number of small fundraisers.
All of the team's income is earned through the fundraising efforts of its team members. Approximately 60% of the income comes from corporate sponsorships forged through the collaboration between team members and corporate representatives. Corporate sponsors donate anything from financial assitance to work space to free services and supplies. The team also receives some private donations from the families of Woodside High School and the team itself. This accounts for approximately 15-20% of the income and the donors receive the same benefits as large companies. The rest of the team's income comes through small fundraisers, which not only serve as money-earning vehicles but also team-building exercises. The team has participated in everything from car washes and giftwraps to bake sales and rummage sales.
