Anatomy: Poison
All frogs are toxic. The poison is located in small poison sacs in the skin. Most frog poison isn't toxic to discourage predators or do any harm at all, other than a bad taste in the mouth.
There is one type of frog that is poisonous to deter predators; even kill. These are the poison dart frogs, which can be found in Central and South America. There are about 170 known species of poison dart frog. They get their name from the Native Americans who used the frogs' poison on the tips of their blowdarts and arrows. The most poisonous frog is the golden poison frog. A single specimen has enough poison to kill 8 people.
Though these frogs can cause severe pain and discomfort, even death, scientific studies have proven that some of their poisons can be used as pain killers.
