Humans: Benefits to Us
Frogs benefit humans greatly. They control the populations of insect pests, helping farmers to grow more and better food. Some frog species have been introduced into farm areas to control the number of pests, which is far less costly or polluting than bringing in expensive and poisonous pesticides. Frogs are also used in research and medical laboratories. This is because the anatomy of frogs is similar to that of higher organisms. Many new drugs and medical treatments are tested on frogs before testing on humans. Frogs have also been widely used for food, especially European frogs.
