I had intended to include England's Three Lion's symbol, but since the emblem is trademarked I had to settle for this (sigh).

A little clarification:

The match 1902
The 1902 international was played on 5 April.  Soon after the start disaster struck when part of the wooden terracing collapsed killing 26 and injuring 500.

As for the game, there is no indication that the game was abandoned, as many sources say. According to the Glasgow Herald, their report states that the officials of the 2 countries agreed at half-time that the game would be 'unofficial', but after the game it was agreed to make the result official since it would have no bearing on the result of the Home International Championship - Scotland had already won it.  The report says there was to be a further meeting on the Monday following, so at that meeting they presumably agreed to make it unofficial and replay the game at Villa Park, Birmingham.  The result was 2-2.

Hampden Park
There have been 3 Hampden Parks!

Queen's Park Football Club was founded in 1867 and played at Queen's Park Recreation Ground.

In 1873 they moved a few hundred metres to a pitch overlooked by a street called Hampden Terrace and called the ground Hampden Park (1).

In season 1883-84 they moved out of Hampden Park (1) and used the ground of Clydesdale Cricket Club, whilst they prepared a new ground.

In October 1884 their new ground also called Hampden Park (2) was completed and was located in Mount Florida, a further few hundred metres from Hampden Park (1).

Cathkin Park was used for the 1884 game.  This is the original Cathkin Park, described in the report as the home of "3rd LRV"  (Third Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers).   When Queen's Park moved out of Hampden (2) in 1902-3 Third Lanark took over and renamed the ground 'New Cathkin Park'. The "New" must have been dropped eventually.

The existing Hampden Park was opened in 1903.  When Hampden Park (3) opened the city of Glasgow had the 3 finest football stadia in the world, along with Celtic Park and Ibrox Park.

As of 1906 Hampden Park (3), above mentioned only as Hampden Park, has been used in every home game Scotland had.

Ibrox Park
There has been 2 Ibrox Parks. Rangers moved to their present ground 1899. It was built alongside the original Ibrox Park (1).

My special thanks go to Paul Crankshaw who helped me with the above clarification. He has put in a lot of effort in checking out the grounds in the early years. You can visit him at his own site.

I also thank Alasdair Allan, from the Rangers Webzine, for his input and to Karel Stokkermans for his corrections.

Thanks also go to Peter Young and Paisley Buddie.
